Stateside RX-8 in Europe ( VIN check plz )

Hello guys, this is first post here, I spent the last 2 days reading FAQs about the RX8, I seen the car today, it is a 2007, 6MT, it is from Texas … get this, only 22,000miles on it. Engine starts like a champ and it was cold today and the car sat for a while.

There are some issues, there is this noise from low idle when you rev ( like a clunking sound ) not sure if it is the mounts or something more serious. The steering rack he said the control box has a blown transistor on it and all I have to do is find someone to replace it.

Can anyone that has a VIN check left run this VIN for me ( JM1FE173280215327 ) I want to make sure it is not stolen and find out what milage it had in the US ? Ohhh and this is the number on the engine 535463, how can i know of it is original or not ? After a replacement of the block, do they reset the odometer ?

Thanks

No they do not reset the odometer when they replace an engine. Having a low mileage rx8 is not that rare because for some it is just a weekend car.

I understand you are looking for a free vin check but that hardly ever happens. If you are going to be spending thousands on a car what is $40 to make sure it is legit? CARFAX® - Official Site - Vehicle History Reports on Used Cars for Sale You could even buy the 5 pack for $50 and give them out for free if you don't use all 5.

You said you spent days reading about the car, have you read this one yet https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...t-here-202454/ ?

I just googled "VIN check" and found one that told me the car was in a Collision in 2009-09-09, how can i know if it was something minor or major ?

How can i match the VIN and engine code to know if it was replaced or not ?

What about the mileage ... can anyone just check the mileage on the car ? Do Mazda dealers have this info ? Anyone maybe work at one ?

You can call mazda north america and ask them for information on the car. They should be able to tell you if the engine has been replaced or not. Really it doesn't matter if it has been replaced. Just get a compression check done on it and if it has good compression then buy it.

The mileage should show in the carfax report. The problem is when you register the vehicle year after year they usually don't ask for mileage so it can sometimes not be super accurate. By looking at the report you should be able to tell if it has been tampered with at least, but chances are it has not. Changing the mileage only involves getting a new dash cluster though I think.

I didn't know you could check that there. People will buy single carfax reports for $10 so you can get your money back on craigslist if need be.

I'm not sure about that, I would just try craigslist under autos or services if I were you. A lot of people will just paypal you the money and then you email them the report.
