it also depends on what you're looking for in a car. if you're looking for straight line speed, go with the speed3. but if you're looking for a great handling car with decent enough power, rx8

do u really need the extra power of the 3? And are u willing to put up with the torque steer, traction problems, etc to have it? and do u need the big hatch?

honestly performance wise they are both good in their own regards and are completely different vehicles with completely different driving styles.

If you need the hatch and larger interior space I say 3 if not I say 8. Its really based on needs/preferences.

yes, please specify your preferences for a vehicle.
I could ask you the same type of question "What should I get- an apple? Or an orange?"

Okay well in the sense of what is best for driveability and carrying more than 2 ppl. I know the RX8 handles and the S3 has straightline speed, but I would like to know more like:
1. Overall comfort
2. Day to day driveability
3. Maintenance cost
4.Price depreciation
5. Overall value for money

Thanks for the help.

"The more powerful cars feel like riding a horse," Pobst says. "The RX-8 feels like wings bolted right to your arms."

Get the 3
Unless you're willing to take time learning a car and maintaining it properly

I want an RX8 but it seems the Speed3 gets better mpg and is more practical but less of a driving machine.

1.Both are comfortable, though I find the RX slightly more so (but maybe I'm just used to it).
2. You can fit more things in the hatch.. do you need to be able to fit big things? The RX can't carry a spare set of tires without putting them in the cabin, for example. It also can't carry a large TV or any animals bigger than a cat.
3. Wear items (oil, brakes, etc) are about the same. Repairs.. well don't get a car that's going to need out-of-warranty repairs soon in either case. However, the RX has an 8 year engine warranty.. the speed does not, far as I know, and those engines pop too.
4. Not sure, but the RX loses market value faaast. Speeds are in relatively higher demand I imagine, but you might research in your specific area.
5. I wouldn't buy new, you get much better value for money on slightly used couple of years old example, for either car. Value is something you'll have to define for yourself though.

One's a sports car, one is not. Gather 20 guys who live and breathe cars for a living: journalists from Car and Driver, Automobile, Top Gear, etc. For pure driving satisfaction, most - if not all - would choose the sports car.

not true, My 75 lb doberman fits just fine in the rear seat, she gets a little excited and wants to paw some times but I just cover the rear console area with a blanket and all is good.

Thanks for the help.
1. Overall comfort: Speed3. Especially getting in/out, and back seat passengers
2. Day to day driveability: Speed3. You don't need to flog it to smile
3. Maintenance cost: Speed3, if you count oil and gas as a maintenance cost.
4.Price depreciation: about the same.
5. Overall value for money: Speed3

I've owned both. The only reason to take an 8 over a 3 is if you a) like the engine b) want the rear-wheel drive and c) want a true sports car instead of a hot-hatch.

Kindly...

...What forum do you think this is?

I think the good people in this forum could convince you to buy an RX-8 over a Porsche Panamera... because we love our 8's (and Pan's are FUGLY)

RX-8! If we didn't love them, we wouldn't be here!
