Looking for a used RX8 questions on price/models

Hey guys, just hoping someone can shed some light my way. I live in SoCal; I recently lost my 2007 sport in an accident and I'm looking for a newer RX8.
Really want a series 2, Really really want a 2009 R3.

Can you guys let me know what's a good price in my area for one with around 10k to 30k miles. There is one with 10k miles that looks extremely clean in my area for 24995. Of course it has to be carmax where it's no haggle pricing.
Searching around, I also found this thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...hlight=2009+r3

Original poster is near Virginia and got his 09 R3 with 20k miles for about 20500!
Seems unheard of, and KBB puts the car around 25000 also. Maybe i selected the wrong options though? Does living in Southern California mean I have to pay that much more for my RX8?!

My other concern is the cost of insurance, my car was totaled. I'm only 20 years old.:/ How much more is insurance on an R3 vs my sport, without factoring in that my insurance is going to sky rocket from the accident. I was paying 1800 a year for full coverage and then some! My other option would be to settle for less than an R3; maybe get some coils, a Mazdaspeed body kit, nicer wheels, and I love Recaro Sport seats. Haha that would of course all be in time. I just figure if i buy an R3, I won't have to upgrade anything, because I will be more than content stock. Afterall I still have to rebuild my 89' GTUs FC.

Maybe I'm just crazy, or maybe I came on here more for emotional support. I never post threads, but what can i say, it's been a tough week. I don't want to sit around and wait for the best deal to come my way, I don't wanna overpay, but I need a new ride ASAP. Opinions? At the moment I have about 8000, the rest would have to be financed. Thanks for reading, sorry for the novel. You guys rock!

Its simple, if you do not want to sit around and wait for the best deal then you will overpay unless you get very very lucky. So if you really cannot contain yourself then try and find the best local deal and just go for it but you will end up paying more to have your fun now rather than later.

Carmax is a bad company with even worse prices. No haggle prices should mean the price is satisfactory to both parties but carmax is always overpriced and refuses to budge. There are lots and lots of bad stories about them on the net as well. I went to one once, asked the guy if I could take the car to my mechanic to get it checked out and he said no lol.

I test drove a R3 from carmax for five days.(490 miles) On the fifth day I drove from San Diego to Mazda of Orange, and bought the 2011 R3 and returned the 09
to carmax. The 09 would have cost more then the 11

Im not to sure about car max being that bad. I have had a great experience with Car max. within my family we have purchased two cars from them.

I know what R3 you are talking about though Vic. The Blue R3. It looked clean but i do think its a way overpriced. It hard to find any 8 in Socal though ='[ (from a dealer that is) I was looking for about a year for a good deal.

And Digger you were the one that moved it to the OC Area huh? I was wondering why the same 8 that was in SD showed up in the OC lol

Guess you are right on the money with this. Now that the idea has settled in a bit longer, realistically an R3 is far out of my price range, especially after tax and registration. As much as I would love to have one, I feel like I shouldn't go maxing out my finances by getting a 14000 dollar loan, because I know I'm gonna get raped penitentiary style by my insurance company.

I think I'll look for another clean sport and wait on the R3 until I have more money saved up so payments + insurance don't take away from my overall quality of life. I just hope I can still find a nice R3 with low miles when I'm ready. I have a strong fear of them all going extinct before I can get my hands on one. That Aurora Blue is just mesmerizing. Thanks for the suggestions on finding it though; unfortunately I just wasn't thinking clearly.

Another question, for the sport trim...do you guys know if it is possible to add the performance package(DSC and Xenon headlights) to a used one? Or is that something the car has to manufactured with? Can't seem to find any sports with the performance package add-on. I tried searching for the answer, but to no avail.

You can add in DSC to the sport, but it would be really expensive according to that thread and not worth it. Why do you feel you need the DSC anyway? I have been driving without both dsc and tcs since my car did not come with them and have had 0 trouble. This was even my first RWD car and I still did not manage to crash it(knock on wood) even in bad weather. In the rain its a bit squirrely but you learn what not to do eventually.

There are only a few things that I really wish I had. HIDs are at the top of that list, the regular lights SUCK on this car. Unless I am behind another car I cant even tell they are on inside the city or anywhere with street lights. After the HIDs I think what is missed most are just the little creature comforts like bluetooth, and the recaro seats of the r3 would be nice as well. The cloth sport seats are pretty nice for me other than no power adjustment at all.

I bought my car in 2010. It had 18k miles on it and it was priced at $16,900 or something around there. TTL took it up , getting it licensed in Nevada cost me almost $800 because they go by the "new car msrp" for at least 2 or 3 years after the car is new hopefully you have better luck than me lol. :P

I didn't know carmax is that bad. The one thing i like about carmax is how you can get cars from out of state if you cannot find the vehicle your looking for in your local carmax. You just have to pay an extra fees, but you can get the vehicle you wanted.

That is the nice thing about them, most cars they will even move across multiple states for free if you request them. When I was looking for my rx8 I went there first to look at one and then requested an 07 GT be sent down from California for me I forget the exact price but it had ~30k miles and they wanted around 20k before TTL. Then I found the 09 sport with 18k miles for 16,900 and the guy at carmax was pretty pissed. His nice helpful attitude went straight out the window once I told him I had found a much much better deal. Really its just their pretend customer service and high prices that make it bad for the most part.

^ I feel your pain...

Anyway, post it in the For Sale/Wanted section of this site. You could also post it on eBay, Craigslist, and at your local classifieds. Good luck on selling the money pit...lol
