Brand new 2010

I found a dealer that still has a brand new 2010 red R3 on their lot with 35 miles on it. They have a price listed but I'd like some opinions before I say anything to them.

- 2010MY = 263 units

- 2011MY = 132 units

$27,850 must include Mepp 10yr, 100k.
check every wheel for damage. look at all the body panels for Scratches.
24k cash.

Also watch for hail damage.
One dealer local to me (Sill-TerHar) was trying to sell their last 2010 red RX-8 with massive amounts of hail damage all over it for full MSRP, and got pissy when I pointed out all the hail damage on the car, and the fact that they must have submitted a claim on the car with their insurance company sometime in the past year for all that damage.

It's brand new. What kind of opinions you need to know?

Mainly I wanted opinions on price. It's technically 2 model years old even though there isn't a 2012.

Good luck on getting a decent price on it.
Chances are if a dealer has been sitting on a car this long, they are being stubborn, and trying to find the one person willing to pay full MSRP for a car, and usually won't deal no matter how willing you are to buy it at a better for you price, even if the dealer would still make money off of the deal.

Some are just locked in their ways.

Right now, according to Edmunds, there is a $3500 Manufacturer to Dealer incentive for selling the 2011 RX-8's. Doesn't mention anything about the leftover 2010's. Mention that to your dealer, and see if they can get the credit for a 2010, and take it off your price.

If not, you're probably going to be better off looking for a 2011, as it will have that discount. If you know of another dealer within a state or two of you that has a 2011 on their lot, you can tell your dealer if they don't give you that discount, you will go to the other dealer who will give you a 1 year newer car, with that discount.

Good luck.

Found the car:

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1

$27k.

Here's the carfax for it:

http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...&partner=CDM_0

Its listed as a used car on Cars.com, so you might want to confirm if they have already punched the car's warranty start date at some point in time.

Looks like it has traveled around for a bit, and is now on its third dealership lot.
Seems to have sat for half a year at a time at each dealer.

Probably is going to need a new battery at the very least, since its been constantly recharged over the past 2 years and only driven 51 miles.

Yup...that's the one. I just happened to run across it on accident. I'm not gonna do anything until I get to test drive the BRZ when it comes out. If I do decide to get another 8, I don't mind finding a used R3 either. In my mind, that 27k is still too high.

This is so true.

For the longest time last year I tried to negotiate with a local dealer who had a 2010 R3 Aurora Blue just sitting there. They even told me they had received the car from Mazda in Dec 2009. So a year and a half later the car was still there unsold.

Why?

Because of what you said. They wanted full MSRP for the damn car - which BTW had over 200 "test drive" miles on it. Can you believe those idiots told me $29,800 was the best price they could do when I first inquired about the car? They claimed that price reflected the $3,000 rebate (manufacturer-to-dealer-incentive) from Mazda. I told them that was a total joke!!!

I kept negotiating for months and nothing. They kept calling of course.

Last offer I made was $25K out the door considering it was the last remaining "new" 2010 R3 Aurora Blue in the entire northeast at the time. But nothing ever happened.

Later during the same year I bought my 40th AE elsewhere, and months later I stopped by the place and the R3 was still there! Sales guy said dealer ended up owning the car because it never sold, and that they were using it for promoting the dealer through local events, car shows, etc. They had put some nasty big stickers with the Dealer's name on the windows.

I imagine they probably sold the car at some point...but...stubbornness has a price!!

And if it's not too far of a drive for you, stop by, let them know you came from far-away lands and you're ready to buy. Seems that negotiating in person nets people better deals than online or phone shoppers.

I used to go to the service dept of this dealer when they were a couple of miles east in their old facility, though I never bought any vehicle from them so I have nothing to relate as far as their sales tactics.
