2005: Good deal?

Hi guys. Thought I'd ask the experts to see if the used '05 RX-8 (sport package) I'm looking at seems like a good deal to anyone else. Here are some stats:

Price $12,995 Mileage 66,814 Body Style Coupe Exterior Color Silver Interior Color Black Engine Rotary Engine Transmission 4 Speed Shiftable Automatic Drive Type 2 wheel drive - rear Fuel Type Gasoline Doors Two Door Stock No. pc-3822
Normally I'd think that 66k miles is a BIT too much, but for the price I'm not sure that I can find a better deal. I know that much of the engine trouble that came with the '04 was eliminated in the '05, but I'm still a bit worried about the miles. If any of you have any thoughts or advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

i would suggest you just buy one from a member from this forum unless you are buying it from a dealer and they offering you an extended warranty.

you could get one cheaper on here that has been maintained properly and if you get an 05 there is still a 1 year warranty on the engine by mazda

Since you didn't give us enough info about the car to truly know what we're looking at, I am guessing on the value of a bare bones automatic car.

Trade in value is about $8500.
You should use that as your starting point.

Retail for that car is about $10k, so you have about $3k in headroom on what they want for the car.

Now, if it has leather, and a touring package, plus the sport suspension setup, and limited slip rear differential, then its obviously worth more. Bose premium sound and a sunroof is even more.

I would go in trying to steal it for $9k, and see how they react.
Climb under the hood, and tell them it needs new coils, and everything else, and I'm sure it will come down in price.

BC.

I paid $11k for mine but I also knew the dealer (family friend of my gf). Ended up being close to $13k after extended warranties, registration, etc.

I got an 05 sunlight silver 6 spd with 61k miles GT edition (so black leather, sunroof, sport suspension, etc) not to mention the interior and exterior is perfect. They also gave me brand new tires and it came with the ipod adapter in the glove box. All in all a great deal and it was from a well known dealer, not private or mom n pop dealers that get the hand me downs

Really now?

Exactly who is that "warranty" through?
And how much did they pilfer from your wallet in order to get that "warranty"?
Have you actually gotten a copy of the "warranty" yet, so that you can read through it's fine print to see all the exclusions?

It's through that particular dealership, and it was not an added cost to me ( yes I know it's built in to the price somehow ). I could have purchased an extended service plan/warranty through them for the rest of the car, but I'll get a Mazda extended service plan & pay cash instead of financing it in. I have a copy of the warranty, nothing out of the ordinary. It's got $100 deductible and $75 towing reimbursement.

I skimmed through the thread quickly.

Don't care if the car is free ... never take ownership of a 2003-2005 rx8 automatic

Useless, gutless, pieces of crap .....

+1.

Last week I picked up my 05' Rx8, nordic green, GT package, 6 speed manual with 36000 miles for 11,500
Don't rush into buying an rx8 unless you know its been properly taken care of, or if its still under warranty. I waited for almost a year to find the right 8 for me.
