I don't know why so many pick the 350Z. It's not even the same type of car (well, 4 door/2 door). On the other hand, if others are anything like me, they would have narrowed down the two cars they most wanted to the Z or the 8. The 8 won though

I really think it's biggest rivals are 50/50 weighted cars... and the pure original rx7..this is a trackable car. The public eye thinks 350z based on the motor-related magazine releases and that they're jdm. But just wait when developed significant forced induction arrives... and with continued ford investments monies... watch out corvette, porsche and can you say NSX!!! ZOOM ZOOM

The 350Z is probably closest in most people's opinions. It has RWD, a sporty look, and a 200-some hp engine. It's also around the same speed as an RX-8 (just a touch faster.)

The STi and EVO should be a single option. In competition respect, they have AWD, 4 doors, more trunk room, and they're a whole bunch faster. But they're also ugly. The STi is slightly more competitive because it uses a boxer engine instead of an inline 4. Really, the only thing the 8 has on these cars is styling.

The RSX isn't a comparison anywhere. It has FWD, and a 200hp VTEC. It's slower than the 8 as well.

How about the s2000 and the MR2 Spyder. Where do they come int comparison? Should they be on the poll?

I think your biggest rival besides the 350Z would be the S2000 since both the RX-8 and S2000 have low torque figures.

The S2k is a faster car than the 8 and it is more suited to the track as well. It is a two seater and a convertible. Not a good comparison.

The MR2 is much slower (around 160 hp) and also it doesn't corner as well. It more of a competitor for the Miata and the Miata kicked the snot our of it on the track. I was really very disappointed with the MR2 and being a fan I was looking forward to the new release. No turbo (blech), smaller 4 banger (ick), and weak suspension options (yuck). Toyota really FUBAR'd that one all the way.

Don't forget "around the same price". That's, for most people, is the biggest "rival factor".
