View Poll Results: Tranny or engine been replaced?
I don't think it should be a sticky. Most owners, IMO, don't really have many problems with the car. I for one only had a TPMS light issue, and some backfiring that I recently fixed.

The point of a poll is to collect data and take the quess work out of how many people are having problems. If people don't see the poll, they won't vote. If it was a sticky for one or two weeks, more people would vote.
Well, two people voted that they had their engines replaced. I would like to see them actually post in this thread regarding the problem and how Mazda treated them. Also, this would help insure that these two votes weren't by some "trolls" who just want to give the RX-8 a bad reputation.
If your referring to the pop you get from the exhaust, it happens in alot of these cars. What happens is in the cars that run a tad richer the fuel accumulates in the Catalytic Converter then gets ignited by hot exhaust gases that make it go "pop".
When my car still had the Port flash on it, it did this, when i switched to L it stopped and it hasn't come back with M.

Exactly. My 3rd Gen does it all the time. Well, maybe not all the time, but quite a bit, usually after letting off the gas.
Of course, this isn't the true definition of "Backfire", but you know that, as shown by the fact that you describe the "pop" from the exhaust.
I voted for one of the Engine replacements. Mine was at 1000 miles just a month after I bought my car. Coolent leak 2nd rotory housing. 2 weeks in the shop, and dealership was a pain to deal with. No respect for us (buyers) after we sign the papers. After that my car was back to the shop about a dozen times. So many things have gone wrong and the suffering still is growing. Getting close to 40 days total for service now and will be going back this week for lights going dim when AC/Engine fan turns on and off.

Sorry to hear you're not being kept happy and having to run around so much.
I wonder what you have to go through before you're entitled to a brand new car? You might want to look into that.
My bad. With so many posts (*****), I have forgotten to reply here. According to the service manager, who is a good friend of mine, it turned out to be a bad batch of fuel. We spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out what was going on, but when we found it, it was easily fixed. I don't know why my TPMS light came on, apparently, a TSB has since been released to the public. Perhaps this was what it is?
