How many previous rotary owners are out there?

OK, another post got me wondering how many of us are current or past rotary owners. I'm still driving an '87 TII myself. I don't have the heart to sell it when the 8 comes in, so I guess I'll have my ride when the forecast is for hail!

First Car: 79 RX-7 5-Speed
Second Car: 88 Mustang 5.0 LX 5-Speed
Third Car: 88 RX-7 GXL 5-Speed
Fourth Car(Current - Soon to be sold): 93 VR RX-7 5-Speed
Fifth Car(July 03): RX-8 GT Black / Black

As you can see the Mustang was a fluke. I only had it because my dad was afraid of buying me another rotary due to part costs. Regardless the mustang was a nightmare. I was 17 and had a lead foot. 3 Engine rebuilds, 4 trannys, Ripped read end from the frame, etc.. Good thing is that he made me fix it myself which I hated at the time but now that I look back, I'm thankfull he made me do it.

Well here's a pic of my last 2 sevens together.

Having created my first poll the other day, I found out you do have the option of allowing multiple choices. But the author has to enable it before submitting the poll. Once the poll is posted, I think it's locked. Maybe an administrator could change it if the author begged and pleaded, but I doubt it.

I would be curious to know if you have multiple choices enabled, will the vote count be based on the users voting or the total choices voted on

Whoops, I really blew it with the poll. Having only owned one myself, I didn't even consider a multiple choice poll. Hell, in this company, we'd need multiple choices AND # of vehicles! There's some serious rotorheads out there! How about if we just vote for our latest ride? I was really trying to get a handle on how many folks on this board are new to the rotary engine.

Maybe someone should start a "How many rotaries have you owned" poll

I never had the chance to own a rotary before. I dreamed about the 3rd Gen RX-7 but I could afford one. When I saw the RX-01 I started dreaming again.

I was living abroad and I owned a 1985 1st generation RX-7 with 13B engine, seats for 4, leather interior and 4 wheel disc brakes. Probably one of the best cars I ever owned in terms of reliability.

1983 RX-7 into which the previous owner had installed a carburetted 13B. Car looked stock... but went a little faster.

I currently own a 1991 RX-7 convertible, and had another 1991 RX-7 convertible before that (totalled the first one).

I barely put 1000 miles on it per year. It is in perfect shape and just sits in the garage waiting on a nice sunny day to be driven.

Looking forward to having 2 rotary cars sitting in the garage once my RX-8 comes in!!

I'm kinda surprised that 43% (as of 3/12/03) of you have never owned a rotary.

I guess I've been involved from the rotary-community side of developing and waiting for this car to consider the non-rotary owners would be interested in the 8. Most of my conversations with Mazda R&D have almost always been about the rotary-owner's point of view. I knew that there would be some interest from non-rotary owners, but I din't expect it to be so large, and on a site like this, so soon.

Good to see that there will actually be new people being bitten by the rotorbug, and not just new cars for existing rotorheads to buy.

I bought a used '81 RX-7. It had 75,000 miles on it but ran great. I got another 75k out of before it started leaking oil like crazy. So when I say the RX-8 come out, my fate was cast.

In addition to an XKE, Sunbeam Tiger, AH 3000, 911, Turbo 626, 929, Miata, MS Protege,740IL, and a VW Beetle, but I'm crazy about rotaries, something different, I guess! And the first rotary I ever drove wasn't a Mazda. It was an NSU.
