Did it once in 12 months ownership. So I guess that makes me a pro.

ive never done that before. Although, when i got into a 5 speed once, i instinctively shifted into '6th' while cruising on the highway :X

For some reason, I do this about once a week. My husband always laughs at me too.

so what is the verdict....does it cause any damage to put it into 6th accidently (besides ego)?

The car should be fine and it is a testament to how tight the drivetrain is.

Has anyone managed to drive off in 6th gear? Although I wouldn't recommend trying it as it woud require a lot of clutch feathering and high rev'ing.

When I first got the car, I found it took a lot more effort to get the stick all the way over either way. Now it's loosend up a bit. Or maybe it's just me that's loosened up.
