Renesis Off Road Truck Racing

I forgot who I was talking to yesterday at the dyno day in Seattle about the Renesis being used in an off road racing series but here it is. I did not want to take that thread off topic but here is what I was talking about.

11.0 ENGINE

The engine is a specification restricted component. See Addendum A, “Specification Restricted Components” for further details.

All SuperLite race trucks competing in the 2011 SuperLite Championship must be powered by the Renesis 13B engine manufactured by Mazda. All engines are prepared for competition and sealed by Exotic Engine Development, the exclusive engine supplier for the SuperLite Championship Series. No other engines are permitted.

All those trucks pictured seem to be older Mazdas too.

While a rotary is fine for circuit racing, I don't see it a good for the trails. I have a Jeep Cherokee and I wouldn't do a rotary engine swap in that.

Al, I believe there is a guy in Europe that built an off road buggy (kind of looks like a sand rail) for racing that is powered by the Renesis as well.

A sand rail would be fine as long as it wasn't doing any serious climbing. It's the whole lack of torque down low that I'm thinking about. Desert racing it should be great for.

Here is a vid with one of the trucks in action. Definitely sounds like a rotary

Dry sumped for oil pressure is awsome. I bet they don't use the stock RX8 fuel tank and that wonderful fuel pump either
