No more front license plates in WA!

In these troubling times for our country, one of the most import issues that we should be pressing our law makers to fix is the ugly issue of the dreaded front license plate! Please sign this petition!

I put a plate on my car because I was at the title office near UW buying the title and saw that a lady had a plate on her 8. I asked her where to get the plate mount, and she told me she got it at the dealership after getting two No Plate tickets while PARKED! You can apparantly get fined for parking without a front plate!

Also, from what I understand, putting it in your window isn't good enough!

Signed! Yea....I won't take it off til it is official. I actually got pulled over about 4 years ago in my eclipse and I had it under my windshield....The cop told me to put it back on front or he will give me a ticket next time if he sees me without it. So there! I'm not about to risk getting a ticket....

I signed the petition.
I have not had a front license plate on any of my vehicles for about 20 years now. SOmetimes when I get pulled over I get harassed for it. Last time I was pulled over I got a ticket for no proof of insurance because my insurance card had expired the week before. The officer told me if he sees me again with no front plate he was going to write me a ticket.
That very same day I was driving into Seattle and I came across an unmarked police car with smoke covers over the license plates and illegally dark windows. So I got out my handy little leica and took a bunch of pictures of it. If officer friendly gives me a ticket for no front plate I will take it to court and attempt to explain how can I get a ticket for no plate when this police car can break many more laws than I do.

That wouldn't be an effective argument. The Law is the Law. It's arbitrary and discretionary enforcement is another matter entirely. BTW, this petition does a good job of indicating interest in a change. However, the only effective approach is the initiative process. The filing fee is only $5. The real trouble is convincing gear heads to give up those sunny driving days in order to collect signatures and campaign.

what i did when i had my srt4 is i mounted the plate on the passangers visor. i then later moved it to the windshield and mounted it with suction cups i got from the hardware store. i still got flack from cops because i drove that car like an *** so it was to be expected. anyways. whenever i got tickets for either "no front plate" or "front plate not visable" i would take pics of the plate where it was mounted at the time in day and night conditions from all angels from the front. it would be droped.

I have to second this. Having a picture of a police officer doing something illegal doesn't make that activity (or any illegal activity) legal for you. It wouldn't be admissible evidence because it's completely irrelevant to your case. You'd get the legal equivalent of "Nice Try."

i spent 8 years driving in CA with no front plate, and the only time i was ever hassled for it was when i got stopped for ther reasons. been in Seattle for 2 months, and at least for now, my luck continues

has anyone used the excuse of, "but officer... my car doesnt have anywhere to mount the front plate..." ?? i just wonder how well that goes over.

I tried that the last time I was pulled over. I also said I have never had a front license plate on my car which is true.

Dunno. No ticket just a warning to put one on.

I still have not done it though.

NONE of my vehicles have front plates.

Again, just to warn you, there is at least ONE meter maid in Seattle ticketing people for no plate WHILE PARKED.

the front plate law is possibly the dumbest law ever passed in washington. it serves no purpose whatsoever, other than giving cops a reason to pull people over and get some revenue. its lame beyond all measures.

if it were up to me i wouldnt even have plates on a car. id have registration stickers that went in the upper right side of the vehicles front window. something 2"x6" that had the same info as a current plate. and i would abolish the license plate law, and turn it into a if you get pulled over for some reason... and the sticker isnt there... you get an additional fine. easy peasy.

oh btw i had a funny incodent the other night.

i was driving home with my gf and my lil brother from bowling around midnight. and i was sitting at a light just waiting, and a cop came from the left side turning right (towards me) and immediatly flipped a U turn. he sat behind me for a little bit then followed me for about 1 mile down the highway. he then flips his lights on and pulls me over. when he walked up i rolled the window down and said is there a problem? he said... i pulled you over cuase i noticed you dont have a front plate. i said oh yeah... that. hes like did you know it wasnt on? im like well no ****... lol. hes like did you know its illegal to not have it? i say, yea. hes like uhm ok so why isnt it on there. and i looked at him and said... officer... you ever let you girlfriend drive you car, even when you know deep down that you really shouldnt? at that point he laughed and said ahhh i see. and then he said well make sure you get it fixed up and put it back on. so i said yeah ill do that. and i drove off.

swear to god its a true story.

You have to wonder how much money the Washington could save by issuing only one plate? Oh wait, I forgot, the traffic light cameras might have nothing to take a picture of. I came here from Tennessee where they have only one plate. I drove my Vette here without a front plate for four years without a problem. BTW, how much is the fine? It might be worth it, like the fine for driving solo in the HOV lane. Just the cost of doing business in the People's Republic of Washington!
