Advice on beating a redlight camera ticket?
#26
Missed this originally, but these cameras have really fallen out of favor in California.
In LA County, payment of the ticket is essentially voluntary -- they don't report them to the DMV.
Plenty of other cities have ditched them either for the legal uncertainty, or because of unintended consequences with respect to safety.
Instead of seeing a reduction in collisions, they have seen an increase in rear-end collisions, at least in some communities. Drivers who know about the cameras might brake hard as soon as they see yellow.
Hope this trend spreads, but since their main purpose is generating revenue for municipal governments, economics might rule over reason.

The argument was the lawyer requested photos and a link to the video but was never sent them. Law requires that if requested these are delivered to the attorney within 7 days of the court date.
The city never got around to doing it since these cases aren't normally handled by lawyers. Case dismissed.

Well, I got my speeding ticket drop down to $150 and it does not go on my record. Lawyer was $300+ ticket $150= $400.
Now since my last time I had a ticket on my record, I have been saving $1000 a year and I had the rate for four years, so am happy, specially now that I change to Amica and I had to add my daughter to the insurance, $600 more and am still saving $400 a year!
Well, I guest I will be saving $400 next year! Lol

you beat the ticket because they didnt bother to disclose when asked? WTF. you realize that you should actually be pissed off right? I know you're glad the ticket went away but you should be pissed that the local government is so incompetent that it cant comply with a simple evidence disclosure request. you're paying those people.

Very cool that you got out of it, but how strange - here in SeaTac, they put the pictures and the video link URL in the notice that they mail to you. Is it different in Redmond? My hearing is in a couple weeks.... I was thinking about making a request for maintenance records and evidence that the camera was working properly at the time, etc. etc. Never thought to ask for something I already have!

Mario, This happoned 2 years sgo.
Maintenance records might work if it is a speeding ticket and the machine could be out of calibration, but If it's a video of you running a light then the maintance doesn't really mean anything.

Haha, I figured that's what it was, I just figured the video would add a little humor. It takes stupidity and a willingness to die to flat out run a red light.
Have you verified with a lawyer, the DMV, or anyone that it won't show up on your record? Because at least here, that's a moving violation, and all moving violations do.
In that case, I'd find a lawyer worth it, but I have to keep my record clean just to keep my job, I don't know how important it is for you.
