A Focus SVT engine in an RX-8, that's a new one. Looks like a well built engine and IIRC they were designed by Cosworth. How much HP is expected? They were like 170HP stock at the crank I think.

Yes stock is rated at 170HP on the crank and it is developed by cosworth.
Basically SVT/ST170 engine is upgraded ZETEC engine from 130hp to 170hp.
In USA market engine is carried by Ford Focus ZX3 SVT but in Europe is sold as ST170.
My over thumb calculation is about 500 crank power with current pulley setup.
With current pulleys supercharger will spin up to 10 000 rpm but it is capable to go on 14 000rpm.

Past week we developed custom bell-housing to match engine and Getrag 265 gearbox.

I'm tracking on this one. I suppose you can't post it in the engine swap section but subscribed. I'm curious to see where this goes.

Yeah very interesting, what is the total weight of the engine/supercharger?

It has been moved to the non rotary swapped section.

Lets see what you can do

Yesterday RWD sump kit received and assembled. Will save some weight and get more ground clearance.

Regarding weight - I don't know how much is engine weight with SC on. I will try to get a scale to measure it (you give me big task to measure the weight).

My friend is just crazy. During my full time job (I work as quality engineer in automotive industry) he put engine and tranny together. Than he put the engine into the engine bay to check layout. He cut a bit of firewall to keep front steering geometry in stock form... Stil a lot on to do list, but progress is fast and we want to built as much as possible before summer vacations...

Summer vacations gone so I start to prepare custom intake manifold. Quite happy with robustness and appearance so far.

Following this one. Looks interesting.

Had to cut the firewall on mine too. I'll have to remove the plastic wiper scuttle panel to change the rear spark plug.

Cheers John

I didn't really need to cut the firewall but I choose large intercooler and position it horizontally so I choose this compromise to move engine a little bit backwards.

I see. I chose to cut the firewall & still run the rx8 box in the original position. Engine sits in about the same position as the rotary too.

Cheers John

Last engine mount positioned and at same time this is also bracket for alternator. I use BMW steering rack instead of Rx8 unit. Alternator and rack are dummy parts to test how they sit on the position. New items ordered... And lol engine looks really small

Huh I just stuck with fuel delivery system I want to replaced stock fuel pump with 430L one. After disassembling in tank fuel system noticed that 430L pump can't be installed without big diy task. How you guys solved fuel pump system on over 500HP setups. Any ideas? Plase give me advice how to solve issue with in tank system. I know fuel cell with inline pumps is always solution. Thank you.

Intake manifold and throttle body position optimized so now I can start work on air piping. ECU arrived and I decided to go with Haltech for this project. For fuel pumps I found a solution and will be updated soon.

I am not a fan of the stock fuel system, or the stock means of fuel pickup...I have heard a lot of fuel starvation issues.

My plan is to run these... https://liquidironindustries.com/Wal...k-Pickups.html

They are Walbro fuel pickups, include a mesh screen and a valve that if it starts sucking air, it closes. I plan on putting a couple of these in the bottom of each side of the tank and running an external pump...since I already have the pump.

My off road rig has run upside down with these on more than one occasion, so they work pretty damn well.

Hi,

If anyone interested I did measurement of used valve springs vs. performance valve springs. On fist graph you can see stock used ST170 valve springs and on second graph performance. As you can see spring rate for performance springs is much better and more consistent.

Not knocking the build at all, looks like a great project, just curious why you chose the dated Zetec platform and not the newer Duratec platform? There are a few bolt-on options for 5spd and 6spd trans (including the stock RX-8 trans).

Flyin Miata supercharger (formerly built by Cosworth) on a 2.5L Duratec can easily hit 300BHP with stock internals, more if built. Not sure what your power goals are though, my friends were making 300-350ish whp back in the day with built turbo SVT's. I had a 2.3 Duratec Focus ZX3 with a Garrett GT28r on stock internals, made 260whp @ around 10-12psi. Fun cars.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this thing finished.
