NV OK, So I thought my RX8 could swim!!

I drove my 2004 RX8 through a flooding area and it died. It wouldn't start so I pulled it two blocks. I let it dry out for a few hours but nothing. The engine wouldn't budge. So me and my sister pulled the engine out drained the oil which had no water in it, and pulled the plugs, which had water in two of them, but still the engine would not turn. When we finally got enough manpower and a breaker bar that wouldn't break we were able to turn the engine and water came out.

My question is -- Has anyone had this happen and is it possible that the rotor is ok?
because i'm thinking about putting it back in to see if it is ok.???

I'm not 100% sure, put pretty sure your engine is bad.
I can't remember how, but I've read that 8s with CAIs have ruined their engines by driving through deep water.
Search a bit, something like 'water in the intake', you'll find it.
Good luck!

*EDIT*
Ok, it's 'Hydrolocking'
Idk how to post links, but try this thread in the Series I Troubleshooting forum;
"Engine won't turn after high water"
Doesn't sound good.

Not a newb, more like a Luddite.
I don't have a computer, do everything on my Android phone.
I can still get my point across.

Besides, why spoonfeed the noobs?

Yeah, my wife has the computer, I'm not allowed to use it.

She says I would probably crash it.

I trust her judgement.

Thanks for info.
My real concern is I'm thinking about parting it out. Since I already have the engine out I might as well open it up and see if theres any damage to rotor or seals. Any suggestions???

I'll post when I find out.

There's quite a few DIYs that may be helpful.
If you didn't damage it too bad, maybe you can try to rebuild it if you have another vehicle to drive in the meantime.
I wouldn't mind trying to rebuild one if I had more time.

I love taking things apart, it's the putting back together that's a challenge.

Do you plan on getting another 8?
Maybe you can find a salvage engine from a wrecked one, or a still running low compression one to use for the time being.
Good luck!

NV Ok so I thought my RX8 could swim!!

Well today I pulled the engine apart and some of you might have already guessed I have two out of three broken seals and a three cracks in the outside housing. So bummed I love this car. I haven't looked at the other rotor yet but expecting the worse. Time for a beer and figure my next move.

when this situation happens your best bet is to proceed the same way you would with a Sea Doo when rolled over ''the only step you need to add is dumping the oil first and refill with the minimum amount on your oil stick since youll need to dump it again later'' : Disconnect air filter, Pull the Plugs out, drop a bit of GOOD 2 stroke oil inside each plug holes '' Like Klotz Or Torco'' and crank it up ''about 5 seconds each cycle'' repeat 2-3 times adding 2 stroke oil everytime you repeat the cycle, then you put new oil/oil filter/air filter ''assuming you checked the airbox/tubing for water'' /new plugs, add 2 stroke oil again in each plug holes ''Minimal amount'' then try to start it, if it fires up try to mix the rpms ''idle till 2500rpms for a minute, change oil again and try to drive the car

I decided to take it apart and It is definitely not ok. Two out of three broken seals on one rotor. So it looks like I'm gonna part it out.
