Intro from a new member

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I had two rx7s a long long time ago, back in the early 90s and really loved the cars. Had good experiences with them. I was recently in the market for a new sporty car and my choices were a Porsche boxster or a rx8. I got a sweet deal on a rx8 and decided to pull the trigger.
I just bought a 2004 rx-8 in apparently great condition. Seems to check out and a compression test was done. Car seems to drive well and has 80k on it.
My God, she is beautiful!
I live in NYC and I am sure I will have a lot of questions in the future, although I promise to check out past threads before posting new ones.
I'll start with one question- I'm reading about the flooding issues and have a concern- is this a common problem? My concern is that I garage park my cars, and I get a feeling these guys aren't going to go through a "procedure" before handing it to me. I'm wondering how much of a problem you guys think it will be?

hi My name is Theresa I live in Selma Alabama and I have a 2005 RX8 . I just bought the car in September I seen the, liked the car, bought the car. I really didn't know what I had until it would not crank for two weeks and I got the internet. I had to turn the key 23 times before it cranked. I called the Mazda dealer in Birmingham and he told me to rev the rpms up to 2 or 3 before I turn it off and I should not have any problems and I haven't. I just thought I would tell you helped me.

Welcome Teresa,

I suggest reading through the congrats thread below. The other one will help as well. What you describe is likely a tired ignition. I would run through the congrats mods first, then look to coils, wires and plugs. They could easily be a decade old. The ones from autozone or o'riley should have lifetime warranties. The Congrats thread should point to a plug and coil DIY to make things easier.

And, again, welcome. Post some pictures.

I WAS not to excited today when I took it to the Mazda dealership in Pleham Alabama today. My power steering light had come on a couple of weeks ago. I finally found A guy here in Selma that would work on it if I got the codes for him. The dealership pulled the codes for me and told me it would cost 3,600.00 to fix it. I need the gear steering and control box. The guy here in Selma told me to check the 60 amp fuse by the battery and make sure it was not blown and it was so maybe that is a little good news. So it anybody could tell me were I might get the gear steering a little less than 1,674.00 that would be au sum. Things will get better. I still love my car.

You probably just need to clean the electric power steering harness connector. It's a common issue and cheap/easy fix before you go changing steering racks. May want to find a new dealer.

Also be very VERY careful if your car has trouble starting, you may be able to perform a simple ignition fix before it becomes an engine failure. Read as 04green suggested
