engine question's

ok this is only place i am capable of posting. i have a silver 04 rx8 with a renesis engine in it. its a 6 speed manual.. just purchased.. 107,000 miles.. car runs great with exception of few things thats going on..

it's consuming coolant.. it does present with a hard start occasionally but after starting runs fine, with what i would call a rough idle.. and kinda sounds like some version of a cheap overseas lawn mower.. BUT, it seems to have plenty of power.. I pulled dipstick and appears to be coolant mixed with engine oil. APPEARS, i say this because as I understand engine's can condensate and produce a small amount of moisture in crankcase, well at least on convential engine's that is..

i don't care to throw money at this engine as I got the car as it sits in impecable condition for 850.00 dollars.. previous owner stated he was told it has a bad seal in it.. and he at some point flooded it and would not start.. well to his dismay, i got the car started and it smoked like it was on fire in his drive.. all smoke being white in color, with a pungent coolant odor to the smoke.. and i then drove the car home, and have driven it everyday since then.. with on occasion a hard start symptom.. but the car eventually always starts.. I understand the engine could need rebuilding, or at least torn down to replace seals and inspect, which would constitute rebuilding of one of these rotary engine's.. but I was recently told I should post here and bounce few of these symptoms off guys that have been here before..

ok.. moving forward is there anyone in the Cincinnati ohio area that would be interested in working with me to A. diagnose symptoms B.. work with me on what ever the car needs.. its to fun to drive to throw towel in.. again car at this point runs pretty good.. but i know there's some sort of issue with it.. and if it runs this good now.. i can't wait to see how good it runs after being fixed.. my phone number is 615 906 6596 im usually up late.. feel free to call..

oh, also looking for the mesh that goes in the front bumper around fog lights.. let me know if anyone has that for sale.. i can't get to these area's just yet as a new user.. thanks again..

before you go throwing money at anything get a rotary specific compression test done that will tell you if it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. If it does need a rebuild it will not be cheap. Never had the smell of coolant after I deflooded engine but always have smoke and it took a minute for the idle to even out. Theres no way to tell if you have to replace engine without rotary specific compression test, I am also in cincinnati but I dont really know of anyone who has a tester yet or a shop that works on these so you probably will have to take it to the dealer

Still pretty expensive almost might be worth it to just sell that one and buy one with good compression
