Crank trigger connector/crank angle sensor location

Hello everyone [tl;dr start at the last paragraph]

For starters I'm a do-it-yourself-man and NOT a professional mechanic or an engineer. I've found helpful threads on RX8 club before despite never signing up myself but I couldn't find a thread for my current problem so I finally signed up to make a thread.

I've had my RX-8 for about a year now, bought it used at around 130k km on it and after numerous track days and lost compressions I blew the engine . I have fully disassembled the engine only to find out that it's terminal and so I've decided to put a new engine in and to change the oil hoses with it since they were very rusty.

Now I have ordered the Racing Beat Coolet Pipe set and I'm looking at their installation instructions at: http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/ekmp...-pipes-ins.pdf. And I'm confused by the instruction numbers 21. and 22.

So my question is that where exactly is the crank trigger connector/crank angle sensor or rather which sensor is it? I was hoping that someone could post a picture or explain it to me as clearly as possible. Thank you in advance!

I think you mean the ESS (Eccentric shaft sensor)?

Sorry if this isn't what you are looking for

I'm not sure, the instructions identify it as crank trigger connector and crank angle sensor. The point is that disconnecting it would keep the engine from starting while cranking the engine.

One would think that a place like Racing Beat would at least use the correct terminology though. I was confused as well when I read step 21 and 22 in the OP's link although I knew they wanted you to turn the engine over without it starting. Just the terminology was awkward ... they even referred to the ESS by two different names.

Well, this is certainly a blast to go back and read through. There's only a couple original owners of RX-8's still in our group. Most have moved on to other cars/trucks. Here's what I'm driving now.
