car starts fine at a moment but dosent at sometime

Hello guys. 2004 JDM RX-8 with 16,000 miles.

I'm gonna get straight to it. The car starts fine in the morning. And it starts fine when home. But SOMETIMES, it doesn't start. When it doesn't start, if I take the key out, put it back in and start it, it starts up fine!

This has been happening for a while now. At first I thought it was the fuel pump, so I swapped it for a 200psi Walbro pump I brought from eBay. That fixed things for a while. I then got my fuel injectors, throttle body and intake valves cleaned at the dealer. Car felt like new afterwards. Had much more power and idled smoothly. But then on my way home from the dealer, it stalled and didn't want to start back up. I eventually got it started after a few minutes. I then found out that eBay sells fake Walbro pumps, so I took it out and got a used S1 fuel pump and assembly. That fixed it for a few days, and then the problem returned. But I feel like after cleaning the injectors, the car feels a bit odd.

I must add that way before this happened, there was a leak in my fuel tank, and my mechanic fixed it wit silicone. The car stalled because silicone went into the fuel pump housing. After that incident, I properly fixed the leak and cleaned everything. I just mentioned it thinking it may have a relation to what's happening.

Plugs are good. MAF cleaned. No misfires or rough idling. Car has power. It runs really well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. I'm so lost here. Thank you!

When you try and it fails, does the engine actually turn over?

If it does:
Have you noticed if this only happens when the motor is warm? These engines have issues with warm starts and Mazda released high torque starters in an attempt to fight this. Also, batteries other than interstate and panasonic are said to contribute to long crank times with no start (as per Mazda TSB)

If there is no crank:
Then there is a chance that your ignition switch or key chip are failing intermittently. This would be most annoying trying to diagnose.

actually the car turns over , sometimes it feels like the car is almost starting. but it doesn't start , then slowly the cranking speed stops...

yha it happens only when the motor is hot ..

If the starter is winding down, look to the battery, then the starter. Make sure connections are clean and tight. Then get the battery tested. The starting behavior (spins, but slows down) sounds like a battery. If the battery voltage drops, your ignition voltage goes all to hell and sensors that would help the car start have a tough time as well. Fuel injectors get pissed as well.

If battery checks out, then look to starter like Talon suggested. That can be tested as well, you just have to take it someplace.

Sir thank you very much for your quick response with regard to my matter sir , Yes I will check as you said.

and few minutes ago one of my friend called me and I got to know a scary story which is ,he have given his car to the same local dealer for a tune up and done the same things and ended up like me having a hot start issue. , what the dealer have done is REMOVED THE INJECTORS and cleaned them along with the throttle body, PLUGS and COILS
so removing them and cleaning them can cause such a thing ??

start with and confirm the basics; fuel & ignition

you need to install a fuel pressure gauge to see if delivery pressure is the issue. You can't just guess at this stuff and nobody can make that diagnosis for you on teh interwebzzzzzzzz ...

I have checked every possible thing so far and still the car is same ..

BUT car starts perfect if I crank right after a hot start without hesitation

but if I let the car for a while and try to start it wont start.

What is your cranking fuel pressure?

Have you confirmed that there is fuel being injected into the engine when cranking?

Have you confirmed that there is a spark at the spark plugs when cranking?

Hello sir,
yes have checked both by the delar and they confirmed me it.

and they told me they cleaned all the vaccume lines and the fuel lines today and there was a small progress
when starting but. im not sure that cleaning the vaccume lines did the job done .

im helpless in this matter sir as the car starts perfectly sometime but dosent at sometime ..

but it would start right away if I crank after switching off the engine but if I let the car sit for a while a start it wont start at once ... confused

You didn't actually answer my questions

If you have the car at the dealer and they are doing the diagnosis though, this is going to be long and painful I expect, and I don't know that we can really help you with you only able to give us what the dealer is telling you. Either let them figure it out (long, expensive), or take the car back and work to solve it yourself with our help.

So far I got nothing , I removed the starter motor and I have the old stock motor , I removed it and cleaned the entire motor and still it is the same but after cleaning the motor , its cranking power increased significantly but it wont do the job , so that means the only solution I have ia to put on upgraded starter motor

What's the easiest way to check the pump's psi? I still think he has a fuel pump related issue. Do these pumps go weak after a drive? When left to cool down for 5 minutes and starting, do they pump slower than when trying to start back up within a minute?
