Broke but might have a job

Hey to all!
No rx-8 yet just a broken soul going through a rough time.
Had plans to do a rx8 build but end up losing my job and my savings...
So now im just sitting back collecting any data I can on The Rx8.

No point to ask questions when i can just search....

Plan ofcourse is to build a Lsx Rx8.

And will be done in time!

Plan on using Ls1rx8.com Cause of reviews and quick responses from the owner.
So ive got a solid plan for this build...

And it is to get a job!

It will be a great build

with my research i hope to learn
Thckest tires to install (will have widen fenders hopefully)
suspension upgrades with v8 swap (wich im sure can bolt up to the swap parts)((sway bars and such))
Best coilover
Possible weld points on frame for better handling
And difference of parts between generation

Plan to do alot with this car!
And have plans to turbo it in the future so i need it as rigid as it can get....

Only thing else i have to research is the ecu and mods needed and to find out aout a canbus system delete the engine light from coming on unless it has to.

And much more Money is a issue so this will not start any time soon, Hell i dont even have a rx-8 yet , just a overpriced lancer that is bound to get towed any day now....

So with this being said I look forward to some late night reads!

Rx8 mods list
ls1 (engine internals undecided 5.3 base)
coilovers with maybe a camber kit
aftermarket swaybars
hinson headers
ls1rx8.com swap kit
nitto tires
some parts from duraflex
and rims if i can afford them from vip modular
ofcourse some nasty brakes as well
hoonigan stickers....
That is the dream base list (future turbo list hopefully)

but reality list includes
Rx-8
Ls engine 5.3 build
lsxrx1 swap kit
wiring possibbly self made
ecm ???
custom rims with nitto tires
fender flares

well we all have dreams and if you read it this far leave a comment and introduce yourself.

Welcome.
Good luck with your project.
I've been here 3 years, and I haven't seen a whole lot of people start a swap thread that actually 'finished' it.
That's a subjective term here, some think just getting it to run is finished.
I don't know if there's an actual count of how many have succeeded, and how many gave up.

Just save yourself the trouble. Run stock, run slightly modified, or sell the car.

I have had my car for a little over a year. I recently embarked on the dumbest, most convoluted project of my life: turbo charging an rx8. Take it from someone who has been there, who has invested over ten thousand dollars, and still isn't happy with the result. Stop. Right. Now.

Some people don't listen and insist on learning the hard way. But all that matters I guess is that they learn.

OP, if you are broke buy a Civic and save your dreams for when you have a decent income.

I didn't know that.
Good of you to say, I think most people wouldn't.

Thank you! I recently just picked up two jobs and on my off days if im not skating im helping my friend in his shop, Who has a hell of alot of experience on race cars fabricating and lsx, and knows alot of people.... hes 54 been in the game since he was 16.
So there goes my ultimate troubleshoot after my own attempt ofcourse.
Like i said any info I find i will share.

I dont mind the trouble. it makes life interesting,
And rx-8 can be found cheap maybe not running well but good enough to drive while saving up for the swap.... LS engines are easily accessible where i live, and im sure anywhere else.

Its not hard if it is done right! But if it is just another piece of the cake .

I always dreamed of a turbo but for the money i could take my family to the beach...
Turbos are always on the yeah ill get there list...
But ultimately turbo would be way down the road Speaking after the swap the car tuned running perfect a year of driving to see how it goes...
Maybe but ultimatley i agree a turbo is REALLY high
and unless your racing on tracks or just need one there isnt a point of buying it.... unless you wanna go fast...
N/A all day

Dont mind my grammer I just got off and im rushing to go skate with my friends....
Thanks for the quick responses and keep them coming!
Negative or positive feedback there is always something to be taught or learn.

Like i said i just got two jobs(part time) but the saving starts today!
So when i get back from skating ill do some studying till then
SEE YA!

I don't understand "for the money I could take my family to the beach". Are you saying a turbo is the same price as a vacation? Are you saying a V8 swap is cheaper? A dude here in Dallas is doing an LS swap. He has 20 grand in it. It isn't done. Another guy is selling one on Craigslist. Asking 14,500.

Is the swap in Dallas Texas or Dallas NC?
The coscan be cheap depending on how fast you wanna go...where you purchase the vehicle,
and where you get your parts.
Vacations can be pricey depending on where you live so for my family yes a vacation is cheaper then a expensive turbo build.

Welcome to the site! I think what everyone is trying to get across to you is that even without the turbo, this project is going to cost you a lot of money! If you are young and have limited cash flow, you might be better served on buying a more economical car and modding that as it will definitely cost less. In fact you could probably buy and mod a whole fleet of civics for what it will cost you to do the RX-8 swap. In the end though it's your choice, and your money!

I will be getting a daily driver maybe a little ford ranger... or a civic or , then spend money on a roller.
Depending on the Cost of both... I have been finding cheap rx-8s between $1500-$2000 and Rollers even cheaper.
So it still up in the air... hopefully l get a second job this Thursday moving company's are really slow this time of year.

Saving up and waiting!

Love to have this build finished at the latest by the end of next year. If all goes to plan.

Good luck with your job.
Idk if you've ever seen the "Zero F**ks Given RX7 Swap" video.
Still one of my all time favorite swap videos.
Seriously.

If only NC was like Washington DC where it illegal to deny employment if a applicant failed a drug test for marijuana.

well we all have dreams and if you read it this far leave a comment and introduce yourself.

If you have the time and available cash, do your research and make it happen. But don't say you weren't warned. Rx8 swaps can EASILY run in excess of $25k.

I'm around your age and have been doing my research on REW swapping my 8, I figure theres no way of getting around spending $12-15k on the swap. I'll make it happen just waiting on timing lets say. And lets face it, at our age theres much more things that $15k can go towards (priorities young grass hopper).

Not trying to lecture you but we've seen ALOT of swap threads on the forums here start and never finish. So do your research regardless of the resources available to you.

PS. The LS1 is 5.7L. If you're going with a 5.3L variant its likely one of the Vortec truck engines. Which are pretty powerful as well but slightly heavier, I believe they're all iron blocks aside from the L33.

Sexy rx8!!! What kit is that?

I'm aware of The LsX engines
I have done my research very well and beleive it can be done for around $8000 if i can get everythin I need for the right price.

It blows my mind when people say these swaps can reach 25k......

So grasshoper (lmao) Used motor parts and the right buy of a rx8 can result in a cheap build. But then doing what i have planned to do to it can get expensive but im taking it slow.... hell im not going anywhere.
$15,000 can got to a lot yes i know this (who doesnt I mean come on guys i am not that dumb)
But im sure the most im going to spend is $10,000.... Done alot of research and i have acces to alot of cheap parts... So hopefully next year i can start this build.....

Thanks its a Shine auto "spec A" front bumper the skirts are urethane INGs style (ebay type). And yeah as long as you do your research you should be fine. I mean the motor and car can be had for cheap but its the small things that add up (maintenance items, fittings, fuel stuff, wiring etc.)

Yeah, the title says it all.
I like it when guys say they want to make a swap and don't care what it looks like, or if they take short cuts & admit it won't have all of the features that the 8 was designed to have.
It's the guys that think they know all the answers before they start, and brag about how 'easy', cheap', & 'fast', and how much better it will be than the original RX8 is with the Renesis engine that get on everybody's bad side from the start.

This guy still had 13,000 in HIS swap lmao....

Yup I had a build where Zero F**** was given ... lol my thirdgen fire-bird build
It ran but all the random bolts holding the engine together was always intersting to say the least..

lmao
This build will not be like that. My goal is to keep it under $10k , And if i go over that mark (more n likely will happen)THen at that point im sure ill just be finding more and more parts to addd to the build..
