Hey all. I bought a Japanese imported 05 manual. Been loving it.

A close friend of mine always wanted a 13b. Decided my car sold him on the idea. So he purchased a NZ new 05 manual. Similar ks. Same amount of owners.

Went out to the beach with him. Pulled over on a private road and had a few runs.

Good take offs but out of 10 runs. I left him in the dust every time.

Both engines at similar kms.

First gear from 6-10k mine gets there faster. Second and deffinately 3rd there's a big difference. His 3rd gear. 149kmph. My 3rd 177kmph. Both taken to 9.5k rpm before shifting. His 4th gear 188. Mine 207kmph

After doing research on the Japanese model vs Oceania. All I can find is that the Japanese gearbox has a taller 3rd gear. But that's all.

I'm stumped. Pretty sure my car is stock. Not entirely sure. Needless to say my friends a little butthurt with his purchase. His compression test came back healthy. No issues as far as a mechanic can find.

Any ideas guys?

There are a number of reasons why one seems to be different than the other.
1. Driver's abilities
2. Engine health
3. Each rotary engine is made by hand, and all have different power.

There are of course other variables, but hard to be specific with so little info

Maybe your car is a 5 speed? Hence the taller gears?

EDIT: Oh wait it is a 5 speed! Maybe his is a 6 speed!

Swap cars and do it again. That way your friend knows it's him and not the car :P

That won't explain the speed difference in gears.

5 spd vs 6 spd?
Maybe it had a difference rear diff?

That's what I thought as well, but he said both were 5 speed manuals.

Firstly ............. are they both 6 ports with 6 speed gearboxes ?

Secondly ............Where in NZ are you ?If you are close to Hamilton , I'm sure i could figure it out pretty quick .

he said they were 05 models not 5 speed !
