Hello!

Hey everyone!

After doing a considerable amount of research and shopping around, I am now a happy new owner of a 2004 RX-8 6SPD Grand Touring edition, and it seems in this day and age the first thing to do after a buying a car is to join the appropriate online forums, haha.

A little about myself, I live in Philly and work in the wonderful world of retail. My previous car of five years was a 2001 Mercury Cougar, 5 speed manual. It seems that the cougar was a training car for the RX8! I wouldn't say I'm very knowledgeable about cars, but I like to consider myself a car enthusiast. I'm a huge fan of the anime Initial D, which I guess is the underlying factor which caused me to look at Mazda's in the first place, haha.

I look forward to many enjoyable years with the 8, and I hope to get to know fellow members, and become a contributing member of these forums myself.

And of course, my baby:

Welcome! Please be sure to read all the stickies in the New Member forum, and it wouldn't hurt to start reading over the ones in other sections as well, such as Tech Garage and Troubleshooting, as there is much valuable information in those.

Enjoy your 8, great choice!

Congarts and welcome
Hahaha Even my previous car was 2000 and 2002 mercury cougars, XR
I laughed because how you said it was a training car lol, known to be troublesome. Its funny how i researched for 3 years of cougar forums before buying one, and similarly i researched rx8 forums for 2 yeasrs before buying one. I seems to be lucky going agaisnt the odds my 8 is awesome, pushing 230k kms and is an 04 6spd. Just make sure you keep up with oil changes and dont baby her, it loves being abused on the free way Red line a Day, Keeps the Mechanic Away ..all the best and enjoy this little beast ;-)

Hello, while my son is the anime expert in my family, I have watched the complete Initial D series (including the new ones) and some of the Wangan Midnite too.

Haha, I will admit, even when the cougar was in the 160k mile range, it was still getting great gas mileage. It was the car I learned manual on, it taught me all about knowing all the intricacies of your car, inside and out. I gotta say, red lining in the 8 is a fantastic feeling.

And I'm so glad i'm not the only ID fan here! haha. Can't believe they ended Fifth Stage right at the start of the final race! Manga has since ended though. Final Stage will be arriving soon, and they announced a new animated movie for next summer!
