sadly my 8 is being prepped for winter. I need to button up a few things and get a comp test then away she goes for a heavy build. many many parts being put into it.. next spring. she will be ready for a meet :-)

Welcome. Just a reminder, get a rotary engine specific compression test BEFORE you buy any used RX8, especially one 11 years old. You don't want to have to pay to replace an expensive failing rotary engine in your inexpensive bargain used RX8 ! Read the new owners thread thoroughly if you have not already.

30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.


every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

I'm planning on making a trip out to your area to check out an 8 in the next couple days (Thurs/Fri/Sat).

Before I commit to the 200 mile trip, I'd like to arrange with the seller to have the car inspected by a mechanic and a compression test done. Can anyone recommend a trusted one nearby?

Also, if anyone has some time on their hands, I could use another set of experienced eyes. Beers/Dinner on me.

Where near harrisburg will it be? I'm near Freysinger Mazda in Mechanicsburg, PA. The guys there are pretty good. I've bought parts from them, and also did service and compression test as well.


There is also another Mazda dealer, Faulkner Mazda more near harrisburg. I haven't dealed with them though.

I'm not sure of any other places you could get a legit rotary test done around here. If you decide to go with them, I would schedule an appointment.

If it's near me, I can swing by and take a look. I'm 15 min. from Hershey. Elizabethtown, PA. I'm not a mechanic, but I have a sharp eye. Been around alot of 8's in the last 4 yrs.
