Hello! I'm glad to see there are others around here.. I think over the last year I've only seen one or two RX-8's driving around. It's nice to know there are others with a similar rotary afflicition..

I just got my (used) 2004 RX-8 on Monday from Walser... It's a Titanium Gray one.. (16k miles)

About the only thing I've noticed so far is that I think the car is going to need new break pads. Anyone have any recommendations?

there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) on 'squealing' brake pads...just bring in your car, tell them they are squealing and they will replace them for free under warranty

in fact bring it to Morries off 394 and 494 and they'll give you a free rental car for the day just ask!

Thanx!

I just went through the TSB list.. and after driving it for three days the ones I saw that look like they may be applicable to my car:

01-001/04 Engine Cover Grommets missing
04-006/04 Break Squeal
01-008/05 PCM Flash

I also noticed that one of the catches on the battery box is broken off.. (no big deal..)

And finally after driving it home I noticed all of the tire valve stems don't have caps. Is this normal? I plan to drop by the dealer today and ask for 4 valve stem caps, as well as the TSBs (and the 05 Key FOB.)

So is Morries that much better of a Mazda dealership? When I first starting looking at the RX-8 (a year and a half ago or more).. They gave me a run-a-round and weren't very nice. (sales side...)

So far (other then the financing at Walser) I've been happy with them.. (They tried to take me for a ride on the financing.. so I went elsewhere.. save almost $12k over a 5 year loan because of it!)

Ohh one other question. Has anyone here had the upgrade performed on their HU/DVD Nav system? I'm a little reluctant to remove the HU and Nav and send it somewhere for an upgrade. But I'd really like to use my iPod with the HU. (And Nav upgrade sounds very interesting....)

Morries sales are still negotiating based...they don't have set adjusted prices like Polar or Walser so if you are not prepared it may be intimidating . But their service department was ranked #2 in the US for Mazda Service Departments a year or two ago and is outstanding.

When you bring your car try to have Jason or Jim as your representative...in fact when you schedule an appointment as to speak to either of them. Jason is the service department manager and Jim really knows his stuff.

A helpful tip at any service department. Bring in the TSBs. This way they don't have to search for them on the computer and it means you know what you are talking about :D

Caps missing is not normal...they are only a few cents so you may get them for free.

DO NOT buy the 05 key at ANY dealership. I called around they only have retail prices and it is non-negotiable...that means $235 for the thing!!!!!!! AHHH I can get it for you for much less than that .

And lastly, HU upgrade...I was one of the first ones to send it to Matt (thew owner of www.mazdaparts.com )...it was very easy and everything works great...if you want to see it working with the PIE adaptor I can show you that too (I don't have an IPOD so no Icelink but I know how to install it). In fact if you really need to I can help you install it.

Ahh thank you.. I'm used to Jeep dealerships, so I've got to learn a lot of new stuff about Mazda..

Via looking at this board, I've found the prices of the key fob at Rosenthal Mazda and at Mazdaparts.. Both are much better then retail.

As for the valve stems, I suspect they can find me 4 of them without trouble..

(and I found one more TSB that needs to be dealt with.. the Milky substance when checking the oil.. YUCK that was nasty. 01-009/05)

Good news.. went to the dealer asked about the valve stem caps.. the sales guy I worked with acted surprised.. we went to the parts counter.. the guy there said "ya you definatly should have caps".. He went into the back and got me 4 polished aluminum "OEM" caps.. (I think he said they were for a Mazda6)

They look pretty good, and best of all they didn't charge me anything.

I also have scheduled for sometime in the near future (once they get parts) the TSB for the front breaks, Engine cover gromets and white oily substance on the dipstick. Service guy was pretty nice about the whole thing.

Again, thanks for the help!

Ha, I moved to CA back in 2000.. stayed for a year and moved back..

Screw the housing prices, way way too expensive..

600 square foot apartment for $1300 a month.. bah.. my mortgage is less then that! (But CA is a great place to visit.. especially in the winter!)

Sometime this summer (august?) I may drive the RX-8 out to San Jose.. I've done it in my Wrangler a couple of times.. (I'm just afraid the gas prices will kill me!)

Still havn't filled it up for the first time yet..... (man that car is a blast, people keep stopping me in parking lots and on the street complimenting it!)

Thanks For all Your Help!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HELLO FELLOW RX-8 OWNERS!

I want to start my first post by saying THANK YOU for all your helpfull information! I got my Escort Passport successfully installed along with my minidisc player. I have logged 4000 miles in the last 4 weeks and it has been nothing short of shear joy. Well.... there was this morning when I hit a monster pothole on 61 and bent both left rims. Here's what I'm planning on. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on wheels.

Thanks,

Disco-D

Suspension, Wheels, Tires and Brakes

Well, Funny you should ask....

I have 4000 miles on her, and I hit a pothole today....

Soo, In the near future I will be looking at two options:

Buying 2 new OEM wheels (Dealer price $500 Each)

OR:

Option B:
Buying 4 new wheels

Alright a fellow eastsider. Might see you rolling around phalen one day.

As for wheels...tire rack has some good looking rims (better than stock) for less than dealer oem rims. You'll have to wait a few days or weeks but it would save you $.

Or you could go to Fred's and see what they have in stock.

Tough call, I'd start at freds and then if they don't have anything I'd see if they could bang them out a bit enough to drive on them and then order out new rims from tire rack. 2000 for stock rims is outrageous.

just as I PMed Disco since I just bought a set of used OEM/Factory rims all 4 in virtually perfect condition...under 4k miles on them...for $400 and it came with center caps and lug nutz w/locking lugs.

shipping was $65 from Indiana but should have been more like $100 the seller managed a staples or something

I'm done lots of research on this since I was going to buy a set of Roja R2-5s 19x9.5 19x8.5s but the wait time was so long my winter tires pleaded with me to take start the summer break. I picked up a set of Rotary Centers for $40 for all 4!

Now I like the stock wheels with the rotary centers so much I don't even really want aftermarket rims anymore :D so now I have lots of cash freed up...which is going right back in the bank...except some for a Hymee Exhaust :p

The were mounted by Discount Tire in Eden Prairie, with help of Manager Don Sweet...nice guy I recommend him DONT let your dealer mount and balance they will damage your wheels and charge you almost double!!!!!!!

nope...not me although I'm a silver...we definitely need to have a get together if you guys want to PM your email I make a small...secure email list (I use gmail myself) and we can organize something...I have the email addresses of a few of you but better if you send it with your RX8club username so I can organize it.

I'm going to South Africa May 29-June22 so if we could get together before that would be great otherwise late June, July would be good too.

I have lots of ideas but group input is much better.

That would be fine by me.

I'll be in NY May 19-21st and outside of this, no big trips.

My folks went to south africa a few years back and they loved it. It was my dad's 2nd or 3rd time back. Enjoy.

I'm part of the Northstar Rotary Rockets and you might want to post something there too. There's a couple of other 8 guys besides my self there....and plenty of guys with 7's who are always looking to take the car out and show it off or bbq.
