Let's fire up the Iowa area with a meet!

My 2006 RX8 is in winter storage and due out at the end of April. Let's organize a meet here in Cedar Rapids some weekend in May!

Hi Shredder,

I am in Dubuque, and would be interested in a meet in Cedar Rapids sometime. Let me know the details.

Another guy here at work said he would be interested and has a 1983 RX7. What weekends work for you and what weekends do not...in May? My 2006 is bone stock but I am almost ready to order a set of OZ wheels. Hope to have them on for May meet.

How about on Sunday, May 20th, Ellis Park along the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids? I got my RX8 out, ordered some OZs and had them mounted yesterday. Looking forward to a nice summer!

Turnout for this tentative event in Cedar Rapids looks like a bust. What date and location works for everyone in Eastern Iowa? I'm open to another city since I enjoy road trips. I thought CR was a central area and offered a few places to hang out and cruise around. JCRANE...what weekend works for you after your China trip? Anyone else, shout out a date in May or June since May is half over. I got my OZs on and installed my Clear Corners last night.

I plan on doing a track day at Blackhawk Farms next weekend, and there are still spots open:

$160 for a track day is super cheap. Let me know if you are interested in going. I plan on going over to Beloit Friday night with a friend and staying at his buddy's place. If you wanted I am sure you could tag along. I think registration for the track day is open until Wednesday.

Thanks for the invite but I'm going to have to pass. I'd like to try a few local events in CR before I get on a track. I'm getting a feel for my Rx8 every day I drive it. It just turned over to 22k miles and I've only put 3k on it myself. I'll be ready once I get a feel for the car in a lot with cones. At this point, I'm a little disappointed with the thin sway bars. I'll most likely address that issue next year.

Hi Shredder,

I originally felt the same way about the excess body roll, and wanted to get a set of bars to increase roll stiffness. After talking with a suspension engineer at work, he talked me into a set of springs instead, and I am very happy with the results. Stiffer springs will increase roll stiffness, pitch stiffness, and jounce stiffness. There is a reason most/all road race cars use little or no anti-roll bars. Those are of course full race cars that drive on smooth tracks though. For a daily driver you need more compliance, especially on Iowa roads. Just make sure you do your research on what you really want to achieve, and don't rush into bigger bars. Some body roll is good because it allows a softer transfer of weight to the outside tire in the corner. The amount of body roll needed is dependant on conditions. On a warm, dry track with sticky tires, you want more roll stiffness. On a rainy, cold track with street tires, you want less roll stiffness. Also remember that roll stiffness and jounce stiffness are related and it is the (roll stiffness)/(jounce stiffness) ratio that is important.

One last thing.......MSCC has a few autocross events in the western part of Wisconsin that wouldn't be too far for you. I plan on going to the Dells event and the Sugar River Raceway event:

Let me know if you are interested in going and we could caravan over from Dubuque.
