Question Recalls and Dealer Work

Has anyone in Colorado had the recall work done? Are you satisfied with your dealer's work?

I purchased my Eight from Burt and really have some doubts about their knowledge and ability and would like an alternative.

Also, I read on another thread that there is a way of replacing the damper without removing the interior console. Anyone know anything more about this. It seems like it would eliminate a lot of my concerns about related damage and reassembly problems.

Anyone having the rear wheel well liner problem noted in a recent TSB? I haven't seen it in my car.

Appreciate anyones experience and feed back.

Thanks

Hi Peter -

I've had really good luck so far with Mazda of Lakewood on Colfax. In fact, if I wasn't pleased with them there is no way I would be driving 40 miles to and from them (inevitably in in Denver rush hour traffic) since I live up near Boulder.

Have not heard anything about replacing the damper without removing the interior console, nor the wheel well liner problem besides what's in the TSB. I'll keep my eyes open for it, as I have to get mine done too.

Besides my dealership though, just about every Colorado dealership has been dealt with by someone in our Rocky Mountain RX-8 Club. For instance, I know Icanrel-8 had a good experience recently with McDonald, and Doccable has been happy with the dealership in the 'Springs. So hopefully others will join in here... or, you could join our club, then you'll have access to our forums (coming soon folks!) and mailing list.

Hope this helps. PM me for a phone number if you want to chat about it.

Re: Recalls and Dealer Work

Actually, I purchased my 8 from Penkhus in the Springs, but have had it serviced, (twice for the CEL), at the dealership in Ft.Collins. I'm scheduled for my recall work next week with them, and am really happy with the Mazda tech at the Ft. Collins shop. As Omicron said, just about anyone in the Rocky Mountain Club can probably chime in with $0.02 about thier respective dealerships.

Thank you both for your reply. I haven't spoken directly to the Mazda tech at Burt but based upon the one oil change I had done there I'm leary!
I may look into going out to Lakewood for the recall work. I read the TSB for both and they both require what sounds to me like a lot of interior disassembly. This worrie me because reassembly when say body work is done etc. always nets a few "spare pieces" or creates sounds that weren't there before.
Thanks again

Peter,

Just read this thread. Don't know if it's helpful, but I had the recall work and so on done before delivery, at McDonald Mazda in Littleton. Because it was delivered completed (as far as I know), I can't offer a comparison, but as far as I'm able to tell, everything is just fine. I even asked them to add extra soundproofing/insulation under the cup console because I read on the forum that it gets hot and heats your cold drinks... they said they'd check that out, and I didn't follow up.

I'm going out there Monday or Tuesday to talk with the techs about that and other questions I have (like do I have the latest flash etc). They've been nothing but friendly and super-responsive unless they get too busy, but I'll report any probs here.

Last thing, my wife has serviced her 92 Protege there for over 10 years (till we bought a Honda for her) and they have been terrific. Can't say never a problem, just that they responded well when there was. That's why I looked there for my 8. Hope that helps.
