sorry I just saw this message. For normal street driving I always use the recommended oil weight in my Rxs. In my 40th Anniversary RX8 I use 5w-20w Castrol dino oil . If you do a lot of track driving I would use a heavier weight. When I had heavily modified (high horsepower) turbo and race-ported rotary engines in two of my three RX7s, I used Amsoil Full synthetic always. The 450+ hp race engine had a dry-sump setup with performance oil pump. On my Renesis engine I have 40,000 miles.

Hey WF, what's the verdict on the results of the tear down of the 13B from the Starlet?

Hmm, well where I live it's in the triple digits 5 months of the year, got up to 118 F a few days ago, so I'm using 10-40 summer right now, but I may even go 15-40 diesel oil for the hottest months.

So when you track, why do you not use MMO?

As far as the actual break down of the oils goes. I pretty much understand that the 10-30 oil breaks down to just the right weight and viscosity that the engine needs to run awesome!. Like when I just do the oil change, I take it easy for a couple of days so that the oil cooks just right... Haha weird I know... But I now know that what is actually happening is that the oil is breaking down propperly. Hope this helps.

Yeah higher octane does just that... It improves or makes the combustion cycle more efficient. As far as oil weight goes you are gonna get one million and 2 opinions on that subject. All I have to say is this. Right now it is summer, I use 10-30 dyno "non synthetic" and when it starts to cool off I use 5-30 dyno. In Puerto Rico since its always hot we all pretty much use 10-30 dyno "conventional oil" all year round. It works oh soo well. And yeah detergents pretty much all the time Like MMO. I only stop using it when I either go to the track or I know that I'm gonna beat the hell out of that engine. And when I do that I step up the Premix ammount to around 7 to 8 ounces. Well That would be the ammount to use on A RX8 since it has a larger fuel capacity than my 13B Starlet. That one has a Fuel Cell That only holds 10 gallons.

So you're adding detergents to your gas, beyond what's already in the gas? Thanks for the info. regarding higher octane fuel keeping the chamber cooler, I wasn't aware of that aspect of higher octane gas.

Haha What was soo funny? That I say that it is abused on a regular basis and then talking about taking care of it??? Haha I know it sounds crazy but what I actually meant is that if you maintain it propperly, Premix frequent oil changes and goos gas. The car will last a long time. No matter how you drive it, Believe me That Toyota starlet with that Street ported 13B goes like stink and when its driven its driven hard!. 87K plus miles on it it still runs. But we will soon tear the engine down to find out what type of wear there is. That will give me a good Idea of what to expect from my Renesis engine. That way Ill know if I should stick to the Premix blend that has been always used on the starlet. 3OZ MMO and 4 to 5OZ Idemitsu.
