One of my good friends has a new supercharged Mini. It is indeed a fun little car. The styling is a bit wimpy and girlie but it is a cute little thing. The supercharger makes it fun but in absolutely no respect is it anywhere near what I would consider fast. It takes a supercharger on a Mini just to even get it into the same league in acceleration as the RX-8. That isn't too good. They do handle pretty good though. In the twisties they'd be fun.
If those guys came over here and read what I just wrote, they'd probably be pissed off. It's just an opinion though. Yes they can cut us down for gas mileage. Not everyone gets 15 mpg in the RX-8 though. Average is about 18 which still isn't spectacular. Yes their engines are more fuel efficient. Pint sized piston engines are good at that. The Mini is a cute little car that gets decent mileage and is a good performer for the price. It has a functional interior considering the exterior size. For a poor man's BMW, it isn't too shabby. Then again it isn't an RX-8 and I personally wouldn't buy one.
Let them have their opinion on the rotary. I just posted mine on their car.

1.) I don't know about most, some of those guys certainly know rotaries better than the average member here.
2.) You say only the supercharged Mini only has more torque, well that's what they're talking about hence MCS (Mini Cooper S). Yeah I know it's minimal but if you drive one and compare it to the RX-8 it feels like it has gobs more torque, but that's probably a weight thing more than anything else.
3.) I don't consider the RX-8 fast nor the Mini Cooper S. You talk like it having to have a supercharger to keep up with the 8 a bad thing. Throw a grand of two in mods in the Mini and then do the same to an 8, the Mini having a supercharger to keep up won't seem like such a bad thing then.
4.) Thanks for sharing you opinion, I may not agree with all of what you say but you present it from an honest and non malicious point of view. You don't bash the Mini, just like I think those guys didn't bash the rotary. They presented their feelings on the matter and I don't think they or you are so far off base.
Honestly I don't think a rotary in a Mini would be a good idea and would strip the car of what it is, much like I don't think a V6 or V8 in a RX-(enter number here) is a good idea. The engine is part of what makes these cars what they are, they're both fun and I wouldn't change a thing. Well... ok maybe I'd add a turbo to the renesis and throw better gas mileage into the mix but that's another discussion

Then I'd make the Mini less cutesy, and... :p
