depends on what you want to do...clubbing then rio is good... just ask for the comps for the clubs when you reserve. I usually stay at the Bellagio... for the gambling, the ease to get to other casinos...and to impress the ladies.

Rum Jungle was great, one of my favorites, very high class, very clean...by far, however, Rain at the Palms Hotel was the best club i've ever been to, bar none...Bikinis has a lot of women wearing, yup, bikinis...Rah is also nice and big
I stayed at the Bellagio & Bally's. Bellagio kicked Bally's but as far as niceness. I also got to stay at MGM for a night and they gave me a $1K/night room. Now that was sweet!!!! Of course I was only in Vegas for 6 hours so I really didn't get to appreciate it. It had a balcony and outdoor jacuzzi and two levels.
I stayed at Excalibur for one night, it's cheap and that's the only good thing I can say about it. The atmosphere just isn't in the spirit of Vegas. It reminded me of a bad theme park, with gambling. It's got kind of a family thing going on and it just didn't seem right.
The Rio would be cool or maybe check out NYNY. Usually whatever hotel you stay in you get free passes for whatever club is there, so I wouldn't doubt that about the Rio.

This is correct these are the best or the Ritz at Lake Las Vegas or the Four Seasons on top of the Mandalay Bay.

Just get the VIP suite at Caesar's Palace... top floor, own butler... great stuff. Only 15k per night... luckily my family was comped for a weekend when I was there last year. Yes, an entire family can stay comfortably.

I've stayed at the Rio twice, rooms comped both times. You have to play the $25 tables to accumulate comp points there I think, unless you're playing slots. Nice rooms (all suites), nice clubs. I like the club on the top floor, great view of the strip. They have a free shuttle to Harrahs on the strip (sister hotel). Your comp card is good both places.
Their casino is kind of dark. I like Harrahs better for gambling, they have a couple of hand-dealt BJ tables (Rio does not). The seafood buffet at the Rio is great.
I prefer the strip as well, it's nice to be able to walk outside and to another great hotel/casino. Caution: if this is your first time to Vegas the hotels are soooo big that they look very close together but in reality they are a lot farther apart than they look.
The Rio is nice but it is all by itself about a mile off the strip. Mandalay is right by the airport but that is one extreme end of the strip. Bellagio and Venetian are more centrally located on the strip.
Vegas is my favorite vacation destination...until I start losing all my money :p You'll have a great time.
I stayed at the Luxor and thought it was great. Next time I want to stay at the Venetian. The Venetian only has suites but they are priced very good. Go during the week. It is so much cheaper. The Excalibur is cheapest but it shows. It is a childish themepark rendition of medieval times rather than an accurate one.
Since the airport is right off the strip, there isn't much point to renting a car unless you want to see Hoover dam or just want to hang out elsewhere. Many of the smaller casinos around town have better odds and VERY cheap food.
If you want a fantastic all you can eat seafood buffet, the Flamingo Hilton has an awesome one but at $10 it is expensive compared to elsewhere. I wish mountains of crablegs only cost $10 here. Oh well.

worst hotel design ever is the eastern wing of the MGM Grand. Stupid hall way stretched for like 3 blocks :P looking at it from one end is like looking at that hallway from Willy Wonka that seemed to stretch forever.
Bally's and Paris were pretty nice, although Bally's is kinda like a holiday inn. I only stay at the Monte Carlo or Belagio. I heartly recommend both.
