Unfrequent Flyer Miles

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/southwe...074x1200249007

make sure you watch the video.

A woman with two disabled children said her family was left stranded by Southwest Airlines on their way to Seattle.

Wendy Slaughter was traveling with her four children and her five-months pregnant sister Friday on a Southwest Airlines flight from Detroit to Seattle.

One of Slaughter’s children has autism and she also has a daughter with cerebral palsy.

When the family landed in Phoenix they were met at the gate by police officers, detained and told they were too disruptive to get on their connecting flight to Seattle, Slaughter said.

Slaughter said they were left stranded at the Phoenix airport with no money and no lodging.

This was the first flight for the children. Slaughter admitted the children were loud and kept getting up and walking around the plane.

“The children were out of control on the flight you know, they were restless, excited and worked up and they are kids,” said Slaughter.

The family said flight attendants asked them to quiet the children twice, but they didn’t expect to be booted off the flight

“I am furious about it. I can’t believe they could do something like that and then leave us completely stranded with no money no way to get anywhere,” Slaughter said.

Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Christi Day told KIRO-7:

"They were being disruptive and unruly on the plane, and for the safety of our customers and the flight crew, we decided to not allow them to travel on to Seattle at that time. Typically if it's a threatening behavior, it's not safe to travel 30,000 feet in the air in a contained environment."

The family said police officers bought them food and Motel 6 donated a hotel room for the night.

The children’s grandmother said she had to pay $2,000 to book last-minute tickets on Alaska Airlines. They said they didn’t have any problems on that three-hour flight.

The family said they want Southwest Airlines to compensate them and give a public apology.

Southwest is partially at fault here. You have one kid with autism and another with CP. It should have put them in the cargo hold with the other vegetables.

I saw the news video, and have to say, that family DESERVED to be booted off the next flight. The kids are disruptive, the family admitted they were running up and down the aisles, even after being told not to. Theresa bout 250 people on a 737, and the OTHER 245 PAYING CUSTOMERS do NOT deserve to be mistreated by these miscreants, nor does the flight crew need to be constantly bothered/altered/potentially prevented from doing their JOB because some kids aren't being controlled properly by their parents.

This lady is darned lucky they weren't met at the door by TSA officials and facing charges for interference with a flight, a federal offense.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sympathetic to a mom and her sister that have children that are too damned unsupervised for their own good. Here's a thought: TAKE CARE OF YOUR DAMN KIDS IN PUBLIC!!!

agreed the parents are at fault here not the airline or the kids.

I am going to have to side witht he Airline. there isnt really no excuse why the other two children who do not have disablity issues should act the way they did on this flight.

Especially when you have 2 adults who are suppose to control their children. It seems like to me, if the mother had raised her children not to be brats they wouldnt have this problem.

What a surprise - the kids were well behaved on the Alaskan Air flight home. So it took Southwest kicking her sorry *** off a plane for her to actually (gasp) keep her kids in check?!! Kids fussing and being loud pains in the *** is one thing - running around the plane like little f8cking monsters is quite another.

Southwest should not have to apologize to her, she should have to apologize to the world for breeding. (apologize - kiss it - apologize)

FWIW - regardless of the actual facts, I never take the position that the family of toothless women and mullet sporting dads is in the right.

The FAA should impose a new regulation that forces children to take sleeping pills on flights longer than 1 hour.

i personally am against parents even bringing their kids to restaurants (at least the ones they know will misbehave) totally embarassing. I agree with sedation for children on planes. ITs not a bad thing. Hell give all of us on planes sedation like in the 5th element. I could use the sleep.

Not teaching your kids to sit down and shut up should be considered child abuse.

Even someone with CP can understand the concept of "sit down and be quiet, we're in public because thats how you behave in public." I don't expect them to be perfect, they're children after all, and have some disorders. They're going to be more disruptive then an adult. This does not give them free reign to run up and down the isles, screaming at the top of their lungs and smacking seatbacks.

Disruptive children should be stored in overhead compartments or checked with the rest of your luggage. (hopefully they'll freeze to death in the uncompressed cargo hold and spare the rest of us from having to deal with your crotchfruit in the future).

They had every right to kick her off the plane. I wouldn't have let them on in the first place.

Furthermore, nobody under the age of 18 should be allowed on red eye flights. EVERY time i take the red eye from cali to boston, There is an infant on the plane who screams all night long.

^ I fly 16 hours from Thailand to LAX and back 4 times a year.......and to be honest, every single time there is always an asian couple with their >1 year old child sitting somewhere in my vicinity

not to be racist.......I have never heard an asian kid scream on a plane........and if he does it's usually really muffled, or only 1 scream comes out before you hear pillow snuffing sound

you guys should take note :D

Everytime I take the red eye to Boston there is some knucklehead who keeps their light on and isn't reading. I took Jetblue once on a red eye and some mentally deficient idiot kept turning the tv on in a seat that was UNOCCUPIED.

I'm really surprised at the responses in this thread. (And pleasantly surprised at that.) I was expecting a bunch of bleeding-heart, "think of the children" responses.

I don't understand how people believe they can purchase convenience at the inconvenience of others.

your nto being racist. every year when i go home (japan) to visit my family i always fly Jal Airlines. the kids on those flights are always quiet etc. but in japan kids are raised to respect elders, so acting like a fool is not as common as here in the US (not being racist, im half american also, jsut been raised in japan all my life pretty much). not sure how thailan ppl raised their children, but i would tihnk its probably the same.

Next time you see a parent whack a kid in a public place, look around at the reactions of bystanders.

Those who glare at the parents or look shocked do not have kids of their own. Those who nod approvingly are parents themselves.

More parents on this forum than you were expecting.

Funny, I always thought it was the opposite. More single people want to see kids get whacked because they are out of control and annoying and parents disapprove because there are so many bad parents.

To get on an airplane you should have to:

You have to bathe regularly
Have a body mass index around 20
Have no cell phone
and Have no children under the age of 16

1. The indians and middle easterns will be forever banned from flying which will inevitably solve the fear of terrorist attacks on airplanes
2. most americans will not be able to fly, which inevitably will solve the rising fuel consumption of airlines
3. most asians will not be able to fly, which inevitably will lessen the need for in-flight entertainment
4. most hispanics will not be able to fly, which will inevitably lessen the load on the aircraft

FFN, i think you might have to get a nobel prize
