Aye, I smell another Y2K coming our way...I suppose it's totally possible seeing as the planet seems to go through these cycles of "refreshing" itself, but I have trouble believing anything about the apocalypse because of those stupid prophecies that the world is going to end every single year. It may be the most plausible prophecy out there, but I'm not going to worry myself about it - if it's over, it's over - not much you can do about it, so why get all bent out of shape?

Easy, if i knew the world ended in 48 hours, i would go 'make friends' with as many women as possible. not to mention i would go steal a few ferraris and lamborghinis and have my way with those too..
I think it would be neat.. I'm going to survive anyway. I'm like a roach
Hey, so what do ya'll think about the whole bible code thing.. encoded messages in the text of the bible (as well as moby dick, etc) Just coincidence because of the large amount of words in these texts? Can you statistically come up with a key that would find "messages" in any text given enough words?
Just leave it to me It may have been discussed before, dunno.
I used to play Shadowrun on a MUSH, but they used all the RPG material.. I like thier take on things.
They have had people come up with such codes for just about any reasonably large text. Not at all uncommon. But, this sort of thing just seems to fall right into the scope of ancient religious texts. Even if it's totally off, it's still pretty darn fun to read about.
Do you believe in the apparently prophetic Bible code? Interestingly, the ancient Mayan also ends in 2012.
Don't believe in bible codes, no... didn't even know they were aware of the 2012 end?
But yes, the Mayans know their stuff. This dream ends on the winter solstice, 2012... and a new one begins. Again. Happens all the time. No biggie
Jury's out on how literal to take it. Could just be the start of a new mayan calendar grouping. Could be a literal end/beginning. I dunno, but I first heard about it almost 30 years ago... it made such an impact on me, just "sounded True," that I wrote the date on my bedroom wall, so I wouldn't forget. That wall has since been blown into obvilion by a couple hundred pounds of dynamite, so maybe that's an omen/clue.
And if it's truly a mayan-style ending, ya all who say "there's nothing I can do about it" are wrong. There's plenty to "do" if you want to maintain your independent existence when/after it happens. You can't stop it, but you can survive it, in a manner of speaking. IMHO, etc.
Can you tell I got all of about 2 hours of sleep last night?
The bible code states that in 2012 a comet will hit the earth causing armageddon. However, there are also other coded messages that say that the comet is shot down out of space..

Interesting... one of the more dramatic interpretations of the mayan version (Ken Carey) states that an asteroid(s) will hit.
Personally, I don't expect a physical event... not exactly. Ever read The Lathe of Heaven? It'll be like that. A "rift" in the Dream. A very few will remember it happening, most won't, and many others will just go poof.
But again, I also think we've all been through it before, we (well, mostly everyone) just don't remember.
LOL, you might be closer to the truth than you think
Some believe the world ended in 1945 when the first (or second) atomic explosion set the atmosphere on fire and burned the planet to a cinder. That hadda hurt.
In any case, it's a curiously common theme. The Lathe of Heaven being a classic, and The Matrix being a current example.
2012 might be a point where that collective denial finally begins to unravel.
We are always a step away from the endtimes. At least that's what the people who keep coming to my door have always been telling me. So far, hasn't really happened yet.
Also according to the Bible, the whole rapture thing happens couple years before 2012 if that is the end, so the end for you might be sooner than you think.
