Hi Quick_lude,
The X-plan/S-plan is a way for Ford/Mazda and their affiliated companies to offer discounts to their employees or members. I first heard about it about a year ago.
I found out that on the S-Plan, pricing is just below the dealer invoice price so I could save big bucks when I got my new Rx-8.
I didn't work for or have any affiliation with any Ford/Mazda companies but I found that the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has had a long affiliation with Ford and offered it's members X-plan/S-plan pricing on Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Land Rover, and Jaguar vehicles.
I paid the yearly membership fee of something like 25 bucks and I had my S-plan pin number in 2 weeks! Unfortunately, many other people found out about this so they don't give out S-plan pin numbers until after a year of membership now.
It's a great deal though. I will probably end up saving at least a thousand on the purchase of my Rx-8! :o :D

By the time the rx8 qualifies for the S-plan everyone who has already applied for their S-plan number should be able get one. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the rx8 to qualify.

I bought my 8 the middle of Oct on the S plan. Two local dealers said they would honor the S plan. Well, one said yes and the other had to be convinced I was buying a car that day and I was not overly concerned at which dealer but instead I was concerned about the price.
I work for PAG, bought my RX-8 end of October on S-Plan (Silver 6m, GT); dealer also gave my brother-in-law same deal on his (Black 6m, GT, nav, rotary trim, front/rear spoilers).
Technically RX-8 isn't on S-Plan yet, however Caliber Mazda in Norco, CA was willing to do it (see Mike Hazelip).
None of the other SoCal dealers were willing to do S-Plan; some offered discounts on Red and Yellow RX-8s though...
got a friend who works for PeopleSoft who got the S-Plan. He showed me the Mazda Pricing, the RX-8 is definitely in it. I think it amounts to about 8% discount off MSRP. The listing was in USD but their Canadians employee can take advantage of it as well.
true, the s-plan is available for the 8. however it is up to the dealer to voluntarily comply with the plan. if you are serious about it, get the information and approach the dealer directly.
letting them know you are going to get the plan even if you have to drive an hour to get it might help them make up their minds

Hey guys.... received the following from Brian Burrow of Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development on November 6, 2003:
Tim, the RX-8 is already eligible for S-plan. We have had an updated page 'ready' for our website for several weeks, but our IT department just hasn't posted it yet...
Here is a copy of your pin certificate. It is good for a year from the initial date.
This is good on any new Mazda vehicle, including the RX-8, but NOT Mazdaspeed vehicles.
Just call any Mazda dealer and ask if they will sell on the Mazda S-Plan. They don't have to, but most will. If they will, take a copy of your certificate with you to the dealer. Let them know right away that you're eligible for the Mazda S-plan and would like to know the S-plan price on whichever vehicle you're interested in. They will show you the pre-determined price right on the factory invoice. This price is not negotiable. They also cannot charge you any DOC fees.
Any trade in, or financing IS negotiable though.
This is good in combination with any current incentives, if any. Currently, there are rebates on many 2003 models (not 2004) that are left in stock, that you could use in addition to the discount that this would give you. See the Mazda website for more info on rebates. There are none currently for RX-8, but if you attended the Mazda Rev it Up and have a Rev it Up discount certificate, you can use that.. http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ter=offersMain
Hey Brian - I thought I mentioned S-plan to you in October. My sales manager qualified for it back then, although many dealerships were not participating in it at that time.
