Ooops......accident....not an 8.

So, I'm sitting eating my dinner tonight(Friday), and I have the back slider open because it's not too cold out. All the sudden I hear a crash and a sound of horrendous metal on metal scrapping. I get up and look out to see that someone has hit the poles out there were the key entry is to the gate into my community. Not only did this person hit them......well..........the pics speak for themselves. Sorry, you'll have to click on the attached.

After some investigation here's what I learned. The woman(a Snowbird from Maryland) was driving out of the development at 35-40mph with her lights off(yes, I said her lights off...did I mention it was dark?). She didn't stop at the stop sign(see pics) and apparently liked to take more than her fair share of the road. Too bad she liked to hug the center huh?

All the airbags deployed(about 6 of them), the gas tank ruptured(gas everywhere), and as you can see the entire back end of the vehicle is off the ground. Please note how far the vehicle traveled once it contacted the poles, and these poles stood about 4 feet high. It didn't stop until the back was completely off the ground, had no traction to the back tires, and still managed to almost get clear of the poles. She had to be moving pretty good to get the poles all the way from the front of the vehicle(which is also trashed) all the way back there. Oh.........and notice how she centered the poles on the vehicle......................good job!

Anyway.....I think she is okay and they took her to get checked out at the hospital. Probably nothing more than sore and burned from the airbags. The last pic is of the tow truck pulling it off the poles. hard to see, but note the fireman at the ready with the hoses!

Drunk.

At least she didn't kill anyone. Bet it ruined her night though.

Hate to say it, but she was a senile little old lady. Not drunk, just probably shouldn't have had an actual license.

Wow. I see people who drive like that everyday where I live. Wish they could lose their license, they're all accidents waiting to happen. I hope she gets some citations from it because it's pretty obvious she wasn't driving properly.

Dementia is close enough to drunk for me. I hope for everyone's safety she stops driving after this, either through court action or personal epiphany.
