Need Advice With Atomic Wing Challenge

A buddy and I regrettably agreed on doing the Quaker Steak and Lube Atomic Wings challenge, and whoever can finish more gets 50 dollars.

The more I have time to think about this, the more I think 50 dollars might not even be worth the painful aftermath.

Truth to be told, I don't have that robust of a stomach, and my tolerance for spice isn't too low, but it isn't high either.

So just wondering if anyone here has tried the atomic wings?

What are some things I can do to prepare?

Or is ignorance a bliss, and I should just go into the contest without doing any research at all and hope for the best?

As far as the drink of choice, I'm thinking milk shake is my best bet, any other suggestions will be listened to tho.

Thanks in advance, I hope I come out a survivor.

The milk shake will take the burn away quite nicely, but you will be full before you know it.

I don't think there is any real way of preparing and what not for this. Just kinda go in holding your pants up....lol

Oh man as good as it sounds... I would have to pass on this contest. Way too much bad stuff going into your body in a short amount of time =

This place was on Man Vs Food on the Travel Channel.
If you can drink a milk shake (as suggested above) or something liquid with fat in it. Ice Cream or Salad Dressing also takes away the burn. The Salad Dressing could coat your internals and help keep the burn down for a little while if taken just before the contest.

Instead of a milk shake which is thicker have just a glass of milk (not skim.)

The chemical capsaicin in wings will bind to the milk and it's proteins instead of the inside of your mouth.

It's not the going in part he needs to worry about, it's the going out part that's going to burn...

A bit of advice, bring something to bite down on while on the toilet. I know this from experience.

Then give yourself a milk enema just prior.

There I fixed it.

as stated before load up the wings with dressing...ranch preferably and get the biggest size milkshake you can get. Instead of just eating your foo as usual try to cheek it (chew the food and keeping it in your cheeks) since your cheek has a higher tolerance for heat than the tongue. You wont enjoy the taste as much though....im sure you dont care since your about to set fire to your major orifices.

Don't do it dude,

Why give yourself an ulcer or other esophageal inflammation for $50 and to be a spectacle?

U know if u mess up ur esophagus when your young with stuff like this then your going to be SOL with any spicy foods in like 20 yrs.

If you really want to proceede though...

Get some oragel and swish it around your mouth for like 5 minutes then spit out. Will totally numb your mouth. If you have access to lidocaine or prilocaine then I would go for that instead.

I hear cocaine also works wonders, just dissolve a pinch or so in your mouth before the contest.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Yeah one of the condition is that it's up to us to get drunk prior to the challenge or not.

But now I'm definitely going to tackle this sober, would not want to throw up with the wings in my stomach.

Yeah, 50 dollars is just one of the motivation, I really just want to see if I'm able to eat at least one of those things. Ever since I saw it on Man vs. Food, I just want to see how I measure up against Adam Richman. Since quantity wouldn't be my thing, I figure I give the spicy challenges a try.

i saw homer simpson swallow candle wax before eating a really hot pepper...
maybe that may work.

but seriously, theres nothing you can do to prepare for it. the milkshake may work, but it'll fill you up real quick, and it wont take the burn away for long.

honestly, i wouldnt take this bet for 50. i had just 8 one time and it was nearly unbearable..
remember it goes out the same way it comes in.

Keep a cooler of ice in the bathroom the next day along with some sort of distribution method. This may seem like more work than it's worth, but you'll thank me as soon as those wings come a-rumblin'.

It's primarily the sugars in the dairy that helps beat the heat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale
Quote:
In Scoville's method, a solution of the pepper extract is diluted in sugar syrup until the "heat" is no longer detectable to a panel of (usually five) tasters; the degree of dilution gives its measure on the Scoville scale.
The lactose in milk is what makes it sweet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose

I bought these pills online that are extract of the "Miracle fruit". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_Fruit
It's a West African plant that when consumed it turns sour things sweet. Some people say it changes some hot flavored things. I tried some hot Cheetos and some salsa and it tasted a little less spicy, it could have been mental.

The only drawback is that hot temperatures break down the protein. So it might not be useful at all, but it's a cool little thing to know

If you'd like them they sell them at thinkgeek.com
