N00b from Dayon, Ohio saying hello...

:D What's up everyone? I'm Steve... didn't see a "noob" forum, so I figured I could post here. Anyway, here's the story:

So... In May of 99 I bought my current car new. Mitsu Eclipse GS 10th Anniversary Edition. Six years and countless thousands of dollars in mods later... It's time for something new. I've been looking around, and being I'm a little older now (25), I'm looking for something a bit more classy....refined...this time around.

I've looked at just about every car, truck and SUV in my budget...from a 330Ci to a Nissan Murano. Nothing has really struck my fancy. So this morning, I call up my local Mazda dealership to ask them about the forthcoming Mazdaspeed 6. I describe to the salesperson what I'm looking for, and two interesting things came up...

First of all, they're going to be storing a Mazdaspeed 6 Sunday through Wednesday between auto shows. He invited me to come and take a look at it...I will take and post pics.

Secondly, he asked if I had looked into the RX8. I replied... "ya know, I haven't." This kind of struck me as odd, considering everytime I see one out I gauk at it and almost wreck. In any case, he suggested I test drive one Monday when I go in to look at the MS6. I agreed, and scheduled my test drive.

I've spent the whole day today looking into them online, and I'm not quite sure why I haven't looked at them before. It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for... I guess I'll know Monday.

The test drive sold me. Take some corners - it handles soooo smoothly. I hope you like it!
And welcome to the site.

If you're mod happy, which it appears you are, you may want to know that there is not a large base of mods for the car, especially in the engine performance department.

Actually, I'm kinda hoping to get away from the heavy modding this time. Way too much money, headache and stress. Actually, I find myself looking for excuses to borrow my mom's altima because it's so much more friendly than my car. I still want something that's fun, but it also has to be a bit more sophisticated than my Chrysler/Mitsu hybrid.

I'll probably just do an exhaust and wheels/tires this time and be happy.

Well I hope you get the 8. It is a wonderful car. Good luck on anything you get but test driving the 8 sold me. I only wish I had gotten a 6 speed mt instead of a AT. 2004's are really a great bargain right now and being that it is the first year for the 8 it will be worth more in the long wrong than the 2005!(IMO) :p

HI,
Just south of Dayton in Franklin. Just got rid of the stratus RT (same as eclipse with a diff body). You won't even be able to compare the eclipse to the 8. Much better car.

Yeah man, good luck not buying one after you take it for a drive. You've got some serious willpower (or you got a badly broken 8) if you can walk away from this machine.

Dayton Ohio's a kickass area, I'm from Richmond, IN... used to drive over like every other weekend and hang out, mostly in Miamisburg. Welcome to the site and to the carnal lust this car brings about.... It is refined from what it sounds like you've been used to but it's... it's... it's like the little rich smart bastard in school that was behaved when needed to be but also a HETHEN when he wanted to be... This car literally for me has an angel and demon riding my shoulders from the moment I key it and roll. It responds so friggin well with just cruising around looking sexy with that badass Bose system. To heatin it up here in the mountains on some crazy twisty back roads where in 3rd gear at 7k rpm the rotor's and 18" tires are talkin to ya sayin 'MORE, MORE' and who am I to refuse... I love this car for being everything I want it to be when I want it to be - which is really back to the devil angel thing...the devil's just more persuasive for me... ha, I got a lil boosed up tonight wit some friends and my passions came out, love my car... you'll see monday... Let us know what u decide bro...

I don't doubt that a bit... but I will probably miss the 250WHP my little bugger screams out. :P

Well, if they want to give me what I want for my car and I'm impressed with the 8... It's possible, but when has a dealer ever wanted to give somebody what they want for their car. I'm a very patient person... The 2nd gen Eclipses came out in 1995 and I decided I wanted one; It took 4 years for the planets to align and for me to get one. lol

hey im in columbus ohio, i also bought a 99 eclipse GS 10th Ann in May/june 1999, it was black, i had an HRC turbo , all the shocks/suspension, etc... all self installed... im driving an 8 now and the fit and finish is a world of difference. the RWD is much more fun too if you were ever on the 2gnt.com boards, my name was Irfan on there as well, as in real life, i think i was member number76, old school 2gnter. try out the 8, its a blast. jsut make sure its not icy when u try it out or u'll never want it

btw i also know a lot of CHS grads here at OSU, i hear about 100 a year end up at OSU, including my current GF.
