Mazdaspeed

I was visiting MazdaUSA.com and found this little beauty. A high performance ready Protoge.

A reported 170hp turbo charged sport tuned sedan.

I drove the MP3 last year when it was available and the only thing that kept me from buying it was lack of ponies under the hood.

This car should be a real treat... This could easily become my winter car, when my 8 is hybernating.

take a look at the movie, high-speed version

Wow, that's a sweeeeet movie

Yeah, love the car, only thing is only 2,000 being made. Some people are already putting the deposit down for one.

I read an article about it that it was going to be under 22,000$ US which is not that bad considering what you get. The CDN price wasn't mentioned, but it should be around 26,000 CDN since the prices don't always match up straight up with the conversion.

The article also said that Callaway (company that made the turbo for it), tested the car around a famous track in Conneticut, and it performed better then the 227hp WRX!!!!

I hear the handling on those MP3's and such are pretty sweet.

Whereas the stock WRX suspension is slop...and the car is kinda heavy at 3150lbs. So I can see that...

test drove one last year

I took out last years MP3 model out for a spin.

Sweet handling, just lacked power.

The only other thing that kinda sucked was the power amp in the trunk. It was about the size of a microwave oven. The big box defeated the trunks usability and fold down rear seat option.

But to some the 400+ watts of ear drum blowing sound is worth loosing trunk space over.

Ahh...it's good to see the name Mazdaspeed finally gracing something in the US. With the RX-8 just around the corner, Mazda may just resurrect itself yet. If only they could start selling the FD3s again...
