mazda websites: which one is better?

i was checking out the websites of different countries yesterday and found them mostky to have been better than the mazda usa sight. mazda canada has a reaaly nice screen saver to download and mazda uk site is packed with stuff. loads of vids and pics of the rx8 and the mazda6. even 360 degree views of the interior of the 6. they even have a vid showing the kurukiri(?) folding rear seat in the 5 door which folds by pulling just one latch. anyway i digress, what do the rest of you think about the various mazda co. websites?

Browsers....

I think it REALLY sucks they say that they won't let you look at the site with NS6.x, NS 7.x, Mozilla or Opera.

I hope Mazda is reading this, because their sites work perfectly in those browsers once I hack the thing to say that its MSIE.

Sad isn't it.

It's sad that what is far better software is locked out because of ignorance... there's no way I'll go back to 4.7x it really is nasty!

But what is really sad, is that we are discussing browsers rahter than the RX-8 which is what this forum is for. My fault I'll admit, but it highlights the biggest problem with the way Mazda is handling this thing. They have a beautiful car, one which would apeal even without the rotary engine which has a fanatical following.... They might well not be ready to produce it for a year, or 18 months.. and I'm sure that there's secrets that they'd like to keep from competitors but sitting here with no information whatsoever is really frustrating!.

If I eventually do buy an RX-8 it will be my first rotary powered car, as an engineer I really love the concept and it's wonderful that it has been developed when there are so many well proven piston engines which would be "almost" as good. But I want to know more... so anyone who can point me to any sites with subjective opinions, sound recordings etc would be really cool... as I said, the principle of operation I have no problem with.... but for the rest, sound and feel, you just can't look at blueprints!

Nice animations...

This site has nice animations... sorry it's not finished yet though... the Rotary Engine 101 link at the bottom is cool.

http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.com/index.html

But I still need subjective impressions of the Mazda rotary compared to piston engines like the S2000 Vtec... and most especially some sound recordings etc.

i think there is a sound clip of a rotary engine starting and driving off on the rx8 cdrom. i don't if it's actually the rx8 or not. i think there was even a sound clip somewhere(maybe on that same disc) of the rx8's door opening and closing, something like that. i got that cdrom from the car show and haven't looked at it in some time because i lost it. but you can get it from mazda, this website if you win the essay contest or i saw one person write that they payed 8 bucks for one on ebay!

I have the CD...

I have the rotary shaped CD and I agree, the sound of the engine on it is beautiful. It will make the hair on your neck stand up, it sounds sweeter than a F1 engine.

I just looked in Windows Explorer on the CD to see if there was a wav. file I could get off of it to share with everyone. Unfortunatly, there is just some wallpapers and then the autorun stuff that launches the cool interactive stuff. BTW: I don't think the CD is near as lame as some people do. I'm excited to have it and I'm gonna hold onto it. It's good for showing to your wife so she can get excited along with you.

If anyone knows how to extract the audio files from the CD, you shoud do it, or tell me how. Everyone deserves to hear the sound of that masterpiece.

ISO Image.

Well, If anyone has any software that can extract the entire ISO image off the CD and broadband so they can upload it to me... I'll extract the stuff and stick it on a web site/ftp server.

CD Sounds

The engine sound on the CD is from the 787B LeMans race car.

CD ISO available.

I assume you're talking about the sound in the intro... I agree, which is a shame... Do you know the origin of the engine sound mixed in with the music?

Anyway, here it is folks.

I have got a working ISO image of the CD... you can collect it from ftp://rx8:mazda@ftp.fsck.co.uk/

Please note that I am distributing this file assuming that Mazda will not object, since it is marketing material which they produced exclucively to give away and which I assume they hope will help sell the car. If anyone knows different, let me know and I'll pull it.

Otherwise, I'll leave it there for a week, perhaps more... but ultimately I imagine everyone interested should have it by then,... feel free to upload anything else rx-8 related too.

With thanks to the member in a post above that sent me the original ISO.

Awesome...

Both those sets of sound & video files are awesome... at least fun, but don't really give me a clue what the RX-8 will sound like. Even the RX-7 samples are not very informative since the renesis is new.

The CD, as somone said has a recording of one of the race rotors 787B ?? in the intro... and a VERY short sample with music over the top of a far more muted and modern sounding engene which could be the renesis... but it's too short and too much music over the top.... but THAT's what I want to hear...

Sad, I know... but I WON'T buy a car that sounds nasty and I will probably be much more likley to buy one that sounds really nice... The rotary engines have a unique sound that can be anywhere between a screaming motorcycle to a distinctive roar... I guess I'll just have to wait and get a test drive!
