Most manufacturers "lurk" on the website. However, they cannot let it be known they work for Mazda if they do post (as it could be legally taken as the manufacturers position).
I know the SVT guys from Ford are on all of their related boards on a daily basis to see whats going on with the cars and any issues. They also look for alot of common mods to possibly incorporate into refreshinings of the vehicle.
Mazda has been on here pretty much since Day 1. And yes, they've used info they've found on here when they've discovered people exploiting kinks in the system. But they aren't out to get you- rather, to gather information, in most cases.
All the better if they do monitor it. It's valuable free feedback for them. It's not like there sitting there debating whether to weld the hood shut because some person on a forum added an intake.
Breaks & Repairs: Shift **** peeling (replaced under warranty), center console slider guide (replaced under warranty), Headlight lens covers messed up (replaced under warranty)
they issue the MSP04 for the M flash specifically because of the complaints here from forum members who had service depts. that wouldn't do it. i say that makes it a good thing that they keep an eye on the forum. but of course they also learned about the folks crashing their nav on purpose to get the upgrade.
Any one know if there is a Mazda mole among the forum members? Or do they just lurk? Are they using information on this forum for good or evil?
I hope Mazda isn't rewriting their tech manuals to check for a piggy back ECU everytime some one comes in with a burnt coil.
I think it's a good thing if they're watching. It's certainly one easy way to find out what's going on with the car and the users in the field. As far as your burnt coil example I'd have to side with Mazda. If there seems to be an increased likelihood of that type of failure with modified ECU control then expecting them to hand out free replacements is, as the Brits would say "awfully cheeky".
Are you asking about people who spy on us and report to Mazda, or spy on Mazda and report to us?
I think there were a few people who worked for dealerships or Mazda and reported to us. I suspect anybody who fell into the former would keep their yap shut.
Are you asking about people who spy on us and report to Mazda, or spy on Mazda and report to us?
Collectively we wish we had a real spy in Mazda. How cool would that be?! (Anyone willing to grease up and climb through the ducts in Mazda HQ :D)
Nope I'm talking about the spies that spy on us. I mean is there someone in Mazda that actually has the job of checking up periodically on the RX8club.com or other forums?

Heh, you think your slick? You think that just because you said that, i won't suspect you? Well i got news for you, your in my list of people to keep an eye on.
I would beat a mole dead!...DEAD! strangle their neck with my bare hands!!!!! JK! If I could hang out with a mazda exec for just one day........<Background music: bells clinging together magically> I would take them out, now remember this is just <i>fantasy</i>, we would go and I would race the hell out of my 8 around town- show them what this car can do against real world competition, take my robotic lazer arm (remember the term "fantasy") and just start shooting all the z's I "drive spirited" with! watching their square tail lights immediately disentigrate and fall into a pile of dust shaped like patrick ueing (sp>?) from that old show "Dallas" and yeah- if they ARE here then some mazda exec just had to read that whole load of crap, and maybe,....just maybe they will take my car and throw a beta supercharger on it just cause they love me so much and I am such a good person, fair, sometimes cranky, but overall a good, good person-well there I go again- sorry mazda exec. and welcome to the forum

Me and my sources have reasons to believe that you could be the mole, they are :
1) You made a thread about it, thinking that would not make you a possible suspect.
2) Magic8 stands for : Mazda Agent Getting Information Constantly and then the 8 which is the RX-8.
3) Our researchers have found overwhelming evidence that your Dog pictured in your avatar could be an Al'Qaeda Member, we have attached a picture of your dog which is being passed out in Saudi Arabia.
I think this is one of the great things about the internet. By manufacturers lurking here they can beat DOT to the punch on recalls and bad publicity, and get feedback on dealer service., and recurring problems. Dealers are also linked to a central Mazda corporate site to obtain info and updates, so everyone is networked.
Even after an oil change, I always get a survey to fill out on my dealer's performance from mazda. They are quite serious about customer satisfaction, and frankly, if you want to sell cars, you damn well better be.
