Just finished perusing the Car and Driver Web sight and saw a potential offering from Mazda, called the 6 MPS. 280hp turbocharged 4 banger, all-wheel drive, 18 in. rims, and a body that is totally orgasmic. I love it, but do you think Mazda will produce such a car, knowing that the RX-8 needs to be a success in every way possible? I think that the 6 MPS might eat some of the 8' sales. I mean, I know I would definitely look at it if choice came between it and RX-8 what about you?

Of course we will look, but most of our hearts are with the RX-8, and there will be no substitutes. The design concepts of the 2 cars are different and seek to appeal to different audiences.

Gimmie my MazdaSpeed RX-8 NOW!!
While both the RX-8 and Mazdaspeed 6 will be practical performance machines, they go about it in very different ways and I think there is enough product differentiation for both models to survive in the market. For me, the RX-8 is the clear choice because it's rear wheel drive with a lowish polar moment. I have little interest in AWD sedans, even though I respect their abilities.
You will be able to buy a 6 with a 4 or V6, but the MPS is a direct injection turbo I4.
To be honest, the I4 is a higher tech engine by far than the V6. Mazda did some good tweaking to the V6, but the I4 is all new and ready for these apps.
