sent her a txt asking if she can do it and she said probably not. she said its been 8yrs since she took those classes and has forgotten alot of it and can barely read it now.
the problem you are having with the translation programs is because in the japanese language there is over 1000 kanji (characters) and 2 other alphabets besides that. she said that a japanese kid cant even read the newspaper till they are in about the 8th grade cause their language is so hard.

Most Kanji, as much as Japanese said "they created it", are actually Chinese Characters(just like Korea, they have been using Chinese words for ages until this past century) and most of them have very similar meanings as the actual Chinese Characters(sound is mostly different of course)
The reason why its very hard for Japanese to learn these "Kanji/Chinese Characters" is that in Japan, there is no proper way to learn these characters other than "just remember the damn word". in Chinese you have to learn the 8 ways to form a Chinese Character, all kinds of "side/meaning" to form the proper word. etc.
This is also the reason why Its fairly easy for Chinese speaking(writing) people to learn Japanese. but its extremely hard for Japanese to learn Chinese.

Japanese is seriously one of the easiest languages to learn. I've taken Spanish, Chinese and Italian as well and Japanese is one of the easiest. Reading/writing is a tad difficult but once you understand the basics of kanji it's fairly easy to learn them. For conversational use it's amazingly easy. Admittedly, it depends a lot on the teacher. My high school teacher was one of the best in the nation and was one of the main people working on the national test for college credit. I dropped my 5 college semester of Japanese for college because the class was so slow. In my high school classes we were expected to only speak Japanese by 4th semester but in college we were on par with 3rd semester

Yah japanese is my first language, but i do agree with you. ONe of my friends I use to skateboard, didnt speak a lick of japanese. BUt after a good 4 months hanging out with us, he learned the basics really fast. after a while, he was macking on japanese girls.
BUt english is very hard for me. I didnt use english much growing up, til I hit about 20, when I moved to the US.
