Guide my way into the Trance/Electronica/Techno/Club music world.

I'm pretty sure quite a lot of you are familiar with cub music since i assume many of you peeps go clubbing. I've always loved trance but i never really gotten deeply into it to actually know the artists. I heard a few of Paul Van Dyk and DJ Tiesto's though. So trance-heads. Which artists should i start off with? And where do i get their albums (CDs, not downloads... songs downloaded online have poor quality IMO) ?

Masada is a good GOA Trance group.

Also, you can start with Ministry of Sound. Grab a few of their compilation discs, like the annual. Listen to them, then pick out some groups you like.

I would recommend downloading some songs before you buy them just so you know what you like.

Listen to some Internet radio also. www.di.fm has some good tunes most of the time.

I, personally, like some of the Hamasaki Ayumi trance mixes.

benny benassi is good if you have limited exposure to his music. You just don't want to listen to hours of it at a time.

if you want fun, look up his uncensored version of "Who's Your Daddy?"

trance is a lot different then the otehr genres of electronic such as house, break beats, techno, etc...

if you get a chance to hear the artists listed above let us know which ones you like so we can guide you into similar directions.

for me, i hate trance. cant stand it, not one bit... but i LOVE house music. Its actually a lot different once you reall start to get into it.

Strange or Sad really. I remember when Trance sounded trance'sh and House sounded House'sh. Then somewhere down the line a few years ago they somehow flipped around in what people labeled or considered 'em. Then again Techno going mainstream really screwed things up 'cause you had these metrosexual guys and wannabe ****** going to the clubs with their holier than thou attitudes ruining the entire scene. Well atleast that is what happened in Boston I still miss going to clubs listening to great music and meeting new people each night with not a care in the world. Nowadays your more likely to get into a fight than pick up a girl or meet someone new.

I usualy listen to XM radio's BMP or one of their "techno" stations for music. If I hear a good song I write it down and hope to find it on a CD.

i think the trance-house flip depends on what sub genre of trance and house your listening too. Yeah, a lot of new trance does use house elements, but then again "progressive house" has always sounded like trance to me.

Get ready for this SNTP... the sub genres of each. HA! Theres no point in trying to explain the differences in the different styles of electronic. Just keep listening, and listen to waht you like, find out what genre that track is in (usually the online record shops do a good job of categorizing them), and keep going in those directions. It'll all come to you eventually.

Oh, and for the record... my favorite types of house and music in general is Deep House (House that sounds like jazz music), West Coast House, and then occasionally some tribal house, tech house, and drum 'n bass.

Then again i pretty much listen to everything (except trance) - but those above are my favs.

^haha.. no shyt.. its a rabbit hole man.. becareful. And definatly explore via online webcast's and stuff.

Awhile ago I used to love the Ultra compilation Cd's but their last few release's have well sucked just a few songs on each Cd were good. Thats the thing I hated the most about buying a new Techno Cd its at time a big risk and your left with a cd that will collect dust after one outing in your cd player.

My favorite trance group is 4 strings, check our their album believe. Their other album turn it around isnt that great though.

Also ian van dahl, fragma, dj encore, and lasgo are pretty decent. The tunes are good but the lyrics can be kinda cheesy.

Also the Ayu trance remixes of hamasaki ayumi's music is pretty good. Check our naturally and real me.

So many sub categories...it is all techno to me. Just depends on my mood. The first artist that really got me into it was Alice DeeJay. Here are some others I listen to now:
Cascada
Milky
Lucas Prata
QED
Freemasons
Ford
Infernal
Deep Dish
Vinylshakerz
Bodyrockers
Daft Punk
Darude (famous with Sandstorm)
Robert Miles
Eric Prydz
O-Zone
Zombie Nation

I also like a lot of the remixes coming out lately. I have a feeling most would say I am more mainstream in my taste on this.

Sash & Digweed; Oakenfold are favs for me as well. And a big +1 for blurred distinctions between the genres. I really like Apollo 440 - though it's old & not trance (I think - lol)

I'm surprised Paul Oakenfold is so far down the list. He is one of my favorites. Infected Mushroom has a website with free downloads.

If you want to take a sneak peak at Deep House (warning it might put you to sleep) i would suggest looking for:
Anything on...
OM Records
Season Recordings
Central Park Recordings

thats a good start.
In the house world, a lot of finding the type of records you like... is more about the label then the artist. Its an odd world we have
