Originally posted by PoLaK Could some1 plz explain wat mazda being listed on fords website exactly meens.
Ford has a controlling interest in Mazda (30% I think), and thus they are technically a part of the Ford 'family'.
But so far, Mazda and Ford cars are not interchanged in ANY way shape or form, and I'm glad for that. Hope it stays that way too. Mazda cars are produced in Hiroshima Japan, for the most part. All Japanese
"Why does almost every person think Mazda IS Ford?
Nobody thinks Nissan is Renault, or Subaru is GM or Mitsubishi is DaimlerChryler.
Mazda's situation is the same as those listed above, if even less controlled than those listed. Yet everyone says Mazda, I mean Ford, or Ford RX-8. Why is that? You don't hear Renault Maxima or Renault 350Z, or Dodge Eclipse.
Mazda is still an independent company, only that Ford holds just enough share of its stock as to have a say on its board of directors. That is all. Mazda is not even close to 100% owned by Ford, yet I hear this all the time.
I don't want to buy a Mazda, I'm mean, its just a Ford, so it must be a piece of junk.
Ugggg.....this is the biggest problem. People think Mazda's are simply rebadged Fords through and through, so they think they are junk, when the opposite is true (except of course for the Truck and Tribute, which really are more or less a Ford).
Sorry for the rant, but this is starting to drive me nuts.
As you know by now, Ford owns a chunk of Mazda. But did you know that Ford also owns Volvo cars, Jaguar, Aston Martin and a host of other great makes. Mazda is a fine addition to this list.
As long as Ford allows Mazda to continue to produce rotary engines, Mazda will be OK. Just hope Ford does not try to build Mazda's to Ford quality levels. Leave Mazda quality up where it is.
Ford must, however, be given credit for reviving Aston Martin and Jaguar. Their quality has increased under Ford. But that's because their quality was poop before Ford.
don't hear "Dodge Eclipse"? Oh yeah, they called it the Eagle Talon, or was that the Plymouth Laser? :D Or we could go on with the Mitsu 3000GT, errr, I mean, Dodge Stealth.
If that's too recent, we also have the Mitsu Starion, err, I mean, Dodge Conquest. Or, in EU, the Skoda Octavia, err, VW Passat. It happens all the time. (sorry, I'm just pretending to know a lot)
The only one I know about, Subaru, GM owns 10% of Fuji Heavy Industries (which has full control over Subaru). I believe that number will very shortly (if it hasn't already) become 20%.
It's basically so GM can use Subaru's AWD system and not have to pay to research one of their own. I guess the plus for Subaru is that they can get GM's Fuel Cell Technology.
As for Ford/Mazda...man, I don't know what Mazda would possibly want with the crap Ford puts out.
on a recent car and driver television episode they practically drooled over fords 4 wheel drive system.maybe mazda gets it for the mps6? also they get to sell trucks with little investment in design and research.
You guys would be surprised at how many auto manufacturers have their hands in other manufacturer's pockets. Take a gander at this website: http://www.miru.com/supergroups.htm
Its a little out of date, but not bad. GM did bid on Daewoo, and won.
