So here is the story, was driving the rx8 the other day, and got on it a little i do admit i was speeding i was going about 12 over the posted speed limit. As i pull into the restaurant to get food, i turn my car completely off and step outta the car only to see a cop pulling up behind me with his lights on. Get a ticket for imprudent and careless driving by means of speeding and swerving lanes. The cop told me he was not running radar on me, which is why he didnt give me a speeding ticket. But here is where im kinda confused. No where in the time that i was speeding did i even switch lanes except to enter the turn lane to exit the road.
Is it worth it for me to fight the ticket? If so i have been told by a few people to hire a lawyer and by others not to hire a lawyer. Just looking for some advice from some members who may or may not have been in this mishap before. Most of my friends have said just to plead not guilty and to hope the cop just forgets about the court date and doesnt show. If i plead not guilty i know i will get another court date about a month or two later, but what am i to expect? Is it simply going to be my word against his?
just lookin for some help and opinions.

First consult with a lawyer. The consultation shouldn't cost you anything and he will tell you how much he can help you. Get lawyer recommendations from other local auto enthusiasts. There are lawyers that specialize in traffic court. These will have a working relationship with the local judges and D.A.'s. They may even golf with each other.
While it will end up being your word against the officers. Realistically, the officers word will carry more weight with the court. Pleading down the offense may end up being the best route. You can do that yourself by setting up an appointment with the D.A.'s office before the court date.

That sucks man! I always go through my local lawyer who takes care of tickets for $50. Best money I ever spend. Couple times throughout the year
ask them to prove it and show you some video, no proof no case, like if they cant prove you did anything of that sort, then you should win the ticket, i would fight it, you prolly wont need a lawyer, but if you feel you would need one, get one
people work down speeding tickets all the time, and with those there is a concrete objective measure of one's illegal speeding. if it's just "your word against the officers", and you can say you didn't swerve excessively, then you at least have a decent shot of getting things dismissed or reduced.
Most important, as was mentioned, is the type of locality and court it is. Get a lawyer and ask/shop around - in some places there is "one guy" who has all the connections and can really get things done. In other places, they all basically hae the same pull and the sam outcomes, but one may cost you 300 bucks vs 600. dont be afraid to talk to a few of them...

thanks guys, ill try and talk to a couple local car guys and see who the go to lawyer is. Yea im not really a cop fan, within the past month the cops around here have been all over the news. One of our university cops had child **** in his patrol car, and then swat searched a house and executed a locked up dog in front of little children, so the cops are not held in the best light around here.
