Driving without oil cap...

For 5 weeks now. I am a genius. Seriously. Wow.

I went to check my oil today and saw it was a bit low, so I went to get a quart, and went to take the cap off... but OH! no cap! God.. >.<

I haven't driven a lot in those 5 weeks, only used 2 and a half tanks, so yea, didn't need to check oil.

Found the cap lodged in a set of wires right above the belt. Good thing it didn't fall on the belt while driving..

More impressed that you don't have oil dripping from the carpet under the hood. Most cars you would be looking at a mess.

No cap can cause a weak mixture, it's un-metered air going in there.

Change your oil ASAP, preferably twice - you will have fine grit/sand/dust etc. in the oil, an analysis would show high silicon content - deadly in the long term.

You were lucky to find the cap....

I did the same thing. Changed my oil blah blah blah. Next day, checked the oil and noticed I could add a half quart and be safe...so I found the cap was missing, ALSO lodged in some wires. Glad it was less than 24 hours that I found it.

Un-metered air, ok i'll give you that one, as I'm not sure how the affect of air going into the sump can affect anything? I know unlike motorcycles no anti-foaming agents are added to car motor oil, but the grit sand dust ect should never touch the motor. All oil before leaving the pan is filtered
A. before it hits the oil pump. (Oil pump screen)
B. At the oil filter.
Maybe change the filter to make sure it isn't being bypassed being full, but really... You're more likely to see twice the micro dust through the intake.

sure it was the 710 cap you forgot to place back on the car? which isnt a big deal. our cars burn oil, not 710 fluid.
