December 21, 2012. Doomsday?

So how many of you believe this could be a huge event or just another day?

For those who dont know about this topic, ive been watching a few programs on this subject and what it breaks down to is the ancient Mayans had a very deep understanding of time and astrology, they came up with a system of measuring time and a calender that is (amazingly) MORE accurate than our calender today! and this calender ends at the date 12-21-2012, they believed this was doomsday.

there was also a high priest, shaman, healer, whatever who accurately (scary accurate) predicted many major events in our history ( American Revolution, Civil war, LIncoln assassination, world wars, 9/11 to name a few) he warns against doomsday.

The mayans are not the only ones to have believed this, the ancient chinese were aware of this date as well, the I Ching predicts it.

Also, to put a physical meaning to the date, an astronomical event is to take place that day, one that happens every 26,000 years. The gravitational center of the milky way (looking at the milky way from the side) will line up with the earth and sun causeing a "wobble" in the earths rotational axis. Scientists arent 100% sure what this might cause to happen. the axis might stick causeing the ice caps to melt and the seasons to change, or unleash earthquakes, cause eruptions, all kinds of crazy **** might happen!

im not worried, if it happens it happens, i doubt it will but if it does then this sucks. The way i see it i live my life one day at a time, unless im planning my mods for my 8

Yeah, and the son of satan was born on June 6 2006. Gimme a break. People need to stop reading those shitty books and magazines they have in grocery store checkout lines.

I saw the history channel presentation about this... it was very compelling and kinda freaked me out a little bit.. they made it seem very logical and mathematical. Props for that atleast. We'll just have to see.. who knows what the next 3 years will bring. Watch out for escalating war and natural disasters.

Maybe this will convince the wife to let me go FI sooner.
Tell her we need the extra HP to escape the tidal wave when all the ice melts.

afaik, the mayans did not believe 2012 was the end of the world. it was just an end to their calender. it would start over.

its been awhile since i looked into that, but i think so.

The history channel is slowly going towards pseudo science topics just to keep viewers. The mayans didn't have a deep understanding of astrology and time, but they could recognize patterns. This whole thing is probably pointing turns the sun spot cycle thats every 11 years. End of the world, far from it.

and for all i seen also all the 2012 stuff and yeah its pretty crazy however i dont think it will be 2012 its way too soon, usually we'd be in some kind of world war or civil war and nuclear destruction however we are far from that. I do know that yeah Earth will freeze over and oxygen will go buh-bye or explode, because basic science and this is real unlike the 2012 crap,

1: the Sun is a star

2: the Sun is the biggest star in our solar system which gives us&plants life and light and heat and solar energy.

3: every star burns out, dies, or explodes inlcuding SUNS!

4: when our sun dies (and it will happen) earth is buh bye but hopefully by that time we are in another galaxy and different earth where we can travel Intergallatic! at Super Light Speed!

I dont know i live life to fullest so i worry none.

^ most definitely a sure thing. so at death, should I just be cremated now or bury me in a casket and let the sun cremate me later? guess just need to research what is cheaper.
