Last night, during the CART practice replay on Speed channel, there was a commercial that showed a bunch of past Mazda racecars (like the IMSA cars, and the 787), talked about the facct that those racecars never threw a valve (and other piston only ailments), and even had a few animated cutaway shots of what appeared to be the Renesis. There was no mention, and no shots whatsoever of the RX-8.
Strange, I didn't think they would start this early. But, they were targeting some hard-core race fans (it was practice, not even qualifying, for heaven's sake).

DAMN!! i saw it too, during the WRC stuff... darn you Sputnik, and your quick posting ways!! let someone else be the hero...
heh heh, jk.
anyhoo, it WAS the cutaway of the RENESIS (i'm pretty sure i spotted the side expiration ports), and damn... oh man, that commercial SERIOUSLY kicked ***... i knew exactly what was up when it said "never blew a rod" heh heh heh... :D
but ya man, makes perfect sense... first they've got to get people ready to embrace the difference of the engine, get people interested in the innerworkings of it... i'm sure that tons of guys already know about it, but would be interested to see it come back, if they thought it'd left our shores forever... :D do not doubt. people will flock, and the herd of the rotor heads will grow, even if it does attract a lot of hair brained yo-boys... we'll convert 'em all, eh Herc??

It is a cool commercial! It's also almost a year old. Newbies just rent out The Fast and The Furious and you can get a half second glimspe of a rotor at work
"Tim Schuh (President of the Dallas/FW Rx-7 Club) was able to capture the latest Mazda ad, the first in many many years featuring the rotary engine. There was no mention of any specific cars but they did show footage of various IMSA racers, the Le Mans Champ and some lovely cut-aways of the Renesis. There is a great voice over: "None of these Mazda race cars ever dropped a valve, pulled a piston, or threw a connecting rod. Maybe that's why they've established one of the greatest winning records in racing history."
That is a great video clip. Has anyone had any luck getting a copy of the DVD they are playing in the dealerships? It has great history and race footage in it!

It's widely available in Canada. There are some shows, however, that I believe are Cdn produced and aired to meet Cdn content regulations for broadcasters. ie: we get Cdn rally events and 'Dream Car Garage'.
Also, some Canadian Cable Operators insert their own commercials during breaks (part of the time....we all saw the new Mazda commercial, though)
SPEED channel is sometimes blacked-out here if the event is carried by a Cdn broadcaster, such as some CART races, EVEN THOUGH they usually carry the SPEED a/v feed! Nuts, eh? On the upside, I can choose which F1 feed I want...the British telecast which features Martin Brundle (very good!) or the SPEED telecast (which is somewhat better now that Sam Posey has been put out to pasture)
agreed, SPEED's broadcasts are improving a lot... but that Rick Debrul guy just gets on my nerves... not to mention their blatent trumping of JPM's chances!! <<groan>>
I saw the commercial and it was cool. At the risk of being accused of starting another thread, who else dislikes the "new" Speed Channel. I think a more proper name would be the NASCAR Channel. The old Speedvision was good, F1, CART, WRC, etc. Now, 95% of the time the channel shows NASCAR, whether its a replay of a race, or NASCAR garage, or NASCAR tech (what a joke) or even NASCAR fishing ha ha ha. Bring back real racing to Speed Channel!

That's why I never even bother watching... it's hard to find any F1 racing on TV at all in the states.. somebody clue me in
it's only on live, during the race weekend, which is every fortnight from the beginning of the season... with only 17 races a year, it's not really all that common, which i like, because of the live broadcast and living on the west coast, i've always gotta get up at 4:00am to watch it... :P
but, SPEED's broadcast of it is getting quite a bit better, with Hobbs, and a bunch of other good Brits there, even though they're under some kind of perogative to completely agree that JPM is the next Micheal Schumacher (what an effin' JOKE!!)...
