Played a little yeasturday. Same game as before but with much better graphics.

Lots of little tweacks.

That is not a bad thing, the first two were very solid.

supposedly the physics engine was improved too. but sadly, my computer is too big a POS to play this game (if the minimum specs are accurate). oh well. such is life.

I'm thinking about downloading, but I don't want to have to put Gamespy Arcade on my computer, and I already know I'm buying BF2, so I want this to be easily removable. Does it use Gamespy and can I take it off easily?

It gives you the option to install GS or not.

I do think the physics are different. I love the carrier weapons!

And the apache gunner seat is so much better!

I tried the earlier BFs, but there was no way in hell I could fly anything. How do you do it, with a joystick?

I use a thrustmaster cougar HOTAS set up, but I am big on flight sims.

Probably overkill for most. Try the saitec HOTAS systems, they seem like good value for the money.

The new planes are cool, just got done flying a few. On the US side, raptor and the joint strike fighter, with hover mood. I shot down what looked like a mig 29 with the ageis guns on the carrier. The tanks are cool also, and the bradley has a secoundry fire that is a missle. (I guess a TOW.)

OK, off to get ice cream.

CH Flightstick Pro. :D

I find this game very amusing. I thought it would run like crap on my computer, but it's actually pretty smooth. :D

(Sniping is too easy.)

I have a Saitek X45 setup but I'll be damned if I could get that thing to map up to use on BF2.

Good gravy, this is fun. I like playing as the USMC and going sniper. I drive all the way around to the left side of the other team's base (their original spawn point.) I look around and see if the coast is clear, then I climb the ladder all the way up to the top of the crane. I set the two anti-personell mines I have along the way, and I'm good to go. I usually kill 15-20 people before I run out of sniper rounds. I like dropping grenades on the bad guys who spawn. I don't think they've figured out where my hiding spot is yet though. I try not to give away my position if I can help it. :D

I've might have got you beaten Klegg, but not for long cause you're in the DOD. I've gotten to fly the actual military simulator for the F22 Raptor in the Lockheed Martin facility in DC, and I got to choose the Groom Lake Map too. It had a full cockpit, and 180 degrees of graphics before me. It was awesome :D.

Well I did have a Logitec Wingman or something like that from a distant time of IAF, but I can't find that. Will my Logitec racing wheel work? Gas for thrust and wheel for steering, NOS for missle fire . It might be tough for me to put up the $60 for a Saitek HOTAS.

WELL...the reason I have not been on the 8 club is because I got the demo at 4:30PM Friday and I've been playing the HECK out of it since, lol.

This game is powerful and needs a system that can take it. I did have some issues originally (SLOW menu/map loading/game play) but I installed the nVidia driver that came with it and it got better.

The multiplayer games are really bad, I go to servers with low ping 0-50 yet all the players there have a ping of 500 or more. I play multiplayer games all the time and I'm always under 75 (avg 30-50). So, I'm not sure why it's so SLOW during multiplayer but hopefully the full game will be better because this game is meant to be played online.

I’m still getting use to flying but I'm thinking about getting a flight stick cause using the gamepad is just too sensitive right now. I saw they had a pitch and yaw range of 1-4 or 5 but I'm not sure what that means. Is 1 very sensitive while 5 is not? I did do a roll in the US JS Fighter and that was FUN!!!!

Side Note: Since the makers of the game suggested 1GB memory, I got another 512MB PC3200 ordered via newegg.com and now I know why they said it.

Tell me your opinion here guys...my PC specs:

2 80gig 7200rpm WD HD's in RAID 0 (after defragmenting the game loaded pretty fast)
Intel Pent 4 2.8Ghz 1Mb cache 800Mhz FSB
BFG nVidia FX 5900 128MB 8X AGP (256-bit memory bus 8 pixel pipeline)
512MB PC3200 memory (soon to be 1GB PC3200)

But it seems I have to set the game to medium (using low for texture filtering with no AA level (while 2X seemed to work fine until I tweaked something wrong) to play the game with no lag. It's not like it lags all the time but in big firefights or explosions it will lock up a little.

If you look at their spec's my system is a mid-to high level computer so it seems that the game is not very well optimized in it's demo form or something. I don’t' think my computer is as fast as some of your systems but I just can't move myself to buy $300 video cards, but I expected a little more out of my system.

I think the game should run better than it does using Mid to high levels and 2X AA during the game. Do you think I'm pushing my system a little too much?

Anyway, the game is VERY fun to play and with only 10 min per round in single player and one map to play I'm having a ball playing Battlefield 2.

When I did find a GOOD SERVER to play multiplayer I took out 16 guys once and 20+ another time, not bad while getting use to the game.

I've pretty much mastered all the classes except medic because frankly, I like fighting too much and the only way to be a good medic is to be a part of a squad. I tend to be lone wolf most of the time...to my detriment when I'm up against 5 troops, a tank, and a armored truck...lol

So far, my favorite type of troops in order are:

Covert Ops (you got to love that C4)
Assult (you got to love that nade launcher)
Anti-tank (you got to love knocking out ever vech that comes your way)
Sniper (you got to love protecting your fellow troops by taking out a guy running to attack them)
Mechanic (mines are fun to watch what they do...lol)
Medic (likes to show love to others)

About the AI...

While I don't find them to be TOO smart, they are very crafty and like sneaking up behind you and stab you in the back while defending your flag.

Also, if you start attacking them from a rooftop or from inside of a building they will not stop attacking it until they rid themselves of you. It's funny, I ran into a building took out like 2 guys coming in and (after learning that they are not scared or forgetful to chase you) I killed another 3 guys charging into the building while the forth guy got me reloading.

This game has been VERY fun and I wish they had the Battelfield recorder included in the demo because I've had a couple of highlights I wish I could share with you fellow gamers out there. Also…some bloopers to make you all laugh too.

I'll end by telling you that taking out 3 enemy troops who are charging at you with a granade louncher (one shot) is SO FUN and funny to do...lol!!!

Those who are playing…we should start a server and call it rx8club members or something so we can have some fun online. I can’t wait till the full version of the game comes out.

A few other notes...

How many times have your "friends" or fellow troops run you over? LOL...I've been run over like 10 times by my AI friends driving tanks and the Hum V...lol

Note: If you hear a beep GET THE HECK out of the way...lol, the AI troops wont stop very well.

The AI troops are helpful on the ground but DRIVE like a bunch of dummies. They often crash into a 2 car traffic jam with a tank (LOL) and once they get moving they get blown away often. It's like they are not aware of the danger when in a vech but on the ground they are pretty good.

I can run the game at full detail 4xAA 1600x1200@85Hz. I thought it'd be choppy like crazy. But, it isn't and actually plays very well.

I like playing as sniper and support. I find Engineer is the most useless since they have no range ability (shotgun primary) and the vehicles blow up so fast, you don't even really get a chance to fix them. Medics heal everyone and get the rez ability for instant full health. It beats waiting 15 seconds for re-insertion and then walking all the way back to the line. The best is being a sniper and hiding out and doing little dick things to mess up the other team.

My favorite is stealing their tank. I can sneak my way all the way to the other side of the map, hide in the grass behind a building and wait for the tank to spawn. I then skiddaddle on out of there and park it at my team's base, so they don't get a tank. :D

Anti-personnel mines at the tops of ladders = hilarious. Placing them in buildings on the left or right of a doorway = awesome. Putting them next to the spawn point = OMGLOLKTHXBYE.

Whenever I snipe, I'm almost never facing the enemy's base unless I'm counter sniping someone. I always setup behind the enemy somewhere in their occupational area and shoot them in the back when they're on their way out to attack my team. This keeps them guessing and makes them fear being out in the open.

At any chance I get, I'll basejump (<3 parachute) onto a tank and drop a grenade into the hole. I don't know if it works, but I think it's funny.

*Edit* Yeah, the AI sucks, IMO.

Well I can fly these vehicles decently well with a keyboard, much better than the earlier BFs. I just always turn sideways in the Helicopters and a couple times I've flipped in a plane and been unable to right myself. What I can't do though is fly slow. I wind up having to go through the area so fast I can hardly hit anything.

Is it me, or is it hard to kill people with the automatic weapons? The sniper is easy, I just can't hit people from far away for some reason, but if they're close they can be easily picked off. The second easiest is the grenade launcher, just lob in a couple towards the enemy guarding the flag and they're toast. After that it seems the pistol is the easiest close range weapon. I can't seem to hit anything long range with a gun.

My system has ran fine, although it keeps telling me to install the nVIDIA driver while it seems I have one more up to date. All the delays have been from lag. I had my load balancer displayed, and when it would get choppy, the load on my graphics wasn't full. On a related note, the load balancer is great for CS:S, because it gives you a horizontal line across the middle of the screen, making it much easier to no scope someone. You just have to estimate a verticle line through the middle of the screen, but that isn't too hard.

Dotting your screen yields the same effect. I used to do that, but I decided it was better to naturally understand where the center of the screen is. And yeah, I guess it's realistic, but the weapons don't feel accurate at all. I usually find myself scoping or sighting and just going full auto for 2 seconds to kill someone at range. Anytime I try semi auto or half second bursts, I never kill the guy...

Yes...that pretty much sums it up, but use your game pad and practice and it gets better. Lower the sensitivity of the controls and take it easy until you learn how much to push the controls.

I also agree that using the jet's to attack ground targets is hard also because of the speed your going but I think In time we will be able to learn to use it.

It's cool watching jet's fly by and seeing (not so fun when your running from it...lol) the helo's attacking ground targets.

The thing about the mech troop is that he is better at defending than attacking, which makes sense that's their reason for being. When I was able to play online I nailed all sorts of vech from the enemy with the mines...it was so funny seeing them attack aggressively (going full speed into our base) only to be NAILED by a mine.

Also, yes I agree that it's been a little difficult hitting targets that are a distance away with the normal M16/M4's (while I’ve gotten way better since the first few games) but I think with practice we will get use to it. Also, I have used the M16 with the 3 fire burst but I think with the 1 shot it will be MUCH better long range and with full auto close range. Just some tips...

Luftwaffle...I too use those tactics...

I drive a HumV behind the enemy lines then setup my sniping point ready to pick them off. I also like getting on top of buildings and playing with the C4...SO MUCH FUN.

Luftwaffle, what system do you have again? What's your setup? If you are using all those settings then you must have a MAJOR system.

The voice over IP is largely well implemented, just make sure you have the Mic Boost gain option thing checked in audio options.

To use voice over IP, do the following.

- Join a server that supports voice (the headphones in the server browser)
- Join a squad
- Use the B key (IIRC) to broadcast to your squad, and the V key (IF you're squad leader) to talk Up-net to the Team Commander.
- The Team Commander can talk to the squad leaders (B key I think) and do a general push to the entire team (V key I think).

The radio network is laid out well IMO, and it, combined with the squad management deal is the best feature I've ever seen implemented in a First Person shooter.

Two Words: Bullet Drop. You've got to compensate for the added distance. How much depends on how far away they are.

Personally I always (almost) play as Engineer. And on the MEC side if I can, as they're automatic shotgun kicks the crap out of the USMC shotgun. Using mines is great, but I've been kicked from many servers because dumbasses on my team drive their fully-loaded APCs over my mines and I get hit for Teamkilling.

LOL

About the MEC, I agree how is it that they get to use automatic shotguns and a NON-Bolt action sniper rifle while the US get's stuck with worse weapons? From what I saw it appeared that they actually have better weapons all around and I think that's major bull?

That bolt action sniper rifle sucks, it forces you to lose time while tracking a target. Also the normal shotgun is crappy too (in speed because in force close up it NAILS the enemy)

Another issue I have is with the scope on the M4...is it me or does it only have like 1X magnification. Heck...what's the purpose of it then, it's useless almost. If you can get the same magnification from Iron sights then why bother with the scope? I know it has a laser pointer/target but other than that it's magnification is basically useless.

Also, the sniper rifle seems not to have alot of magnification either or it does not allow you to adjust it.

To continue to complain, the Abrams Tank the US has is by far the best in the world and seems to be taken out by the T (Russian) tank. The Russian tank seems to be able to take more damage when that's not true either.

Maybe I missed it but so far those are a few of my issues. Even with those complaints I'm loving the game and can't wait to get the full version. I'm very glad I have single player mode because sometimes I just rather play alone...vs the computer.

Come on guys...let's setup a server and try the game out. In the future...for those members that are good with mods (since I heard they will have civlian cars/trucks in the game) maybe someone can build a CRAZY offroad RX8 designed for battle.

LOL...it would be much faster than the buggy in the game...lol, hopefully we wont have to call the mech because we get it flooded in the game.

LOL

There are some issues with the demo (I heard there is some issues with the ATI video cards and you need an Omega driver...FYI) in regards to laggyness. It's not just IN GAME related, in the menu section there is a small lag at times. Mess with the video settings and maybe you will be able to get better resluts.

I can't wait for my 512MB memory since that will bring me up to 1GB and I should see a good performance bump.

My wife will kill me, but I'm thinking about selling some stuff on eBay and doing a side job for someone (LOL) so I can get a stronger video card. My FX 5900 is pretty strong but not compared to the X800 or FX 6800.
