I am *ahem* supposed to PT 3 times a week. I ran for the first time on Sun in about 3 months. I normally run between 1.5 - 3 miles depending on how I feel at that moment. I don't run for any kind of record breaking time or anything. I try to maintain a 7.5 - 8 min mile depending on the distance I run. For me, the best thing for next day pain is to stretch out really good and go for a real easy short distance jog for a mile or so, and then I am good to go. (Learned this from running track in High School in 1986) Only supplement I use is L-Glutamine.
I need to get back to running twice a week though. I am tall and skinny. 5' 11" and currently weigh 148. :D
thanks ,how long do i have to run to begin with ???
i would run no longer than 15 minutes the first week or so using the hard easy system. run take a day off run, etc. then increse as you feel more comfortable. if you have to walk after awhile thats fine too. than start running again. just don't stop and start again.
I run on concrete regularly. It took about 18 months to toughen the legs up enough to run regularly on concrete. If you can't run on trails or grass, asphalt has more give than concrete. Also, shoes with good padding (gel, grid, air or whatever) may help.
I ran 18 miles last Saturday and am training for my 1st marathon in June in San Diego to raise money for the Leukemia and Lypmphoma society. anyone want to sponsor me?
RX-GR8 - congratulation on starting to run. I used to run in H.S. and have tried getting back into running ever since. You have some great places to run near where you live - my favorite being the Cooper River parks. I went to Bishop Eustace, so I used to run it all the time. In fact, I went there with my wife around a month ago to run.
H.S. I was 5'10" - 125 lbs.
Now - same height - 60 lbs. heavier.
