I suppose the profits go to a good cause (assuming the foundation gets 100% of the proceeds and not just what's left over after the auction house takes its cut).
$95K for a $35K car? Good grief. They're going to make 30000 of them each year, so it's not like the car is particularly rare. Owning #1 doesn't seem too special IMO.
I just don't see this car reaching collectible status, since the criteria for a collector's item is 1) rarity or 2) a revolutionary concept. The 350Z is neither.
I agree with you Porkchop. Surely if it were a special edition, or if there were something that stood out about the car other than the VIN number I can see it going for more than list. But that is ridiculous. Going to a good cause or not, paying almost 3 times list price is inane. How long of a wait is it to get a new 350z?

The 7000 or so pre-orders are arriving over the next few months. Almost all of the cars that are showing up now are pre-orders, so it's almost impossible to walk into a Nissan dealer and buy one and drive off today. The few non-pre-order cars on the lots are cancellations, so it is somewhat possible to get one.
Some people on the Z board (my350z.com) have recently ordered their cars and they're supposed to arrive sometime in Nov-Dec-Jan?
The markups are amusing. One local dealer is asking $10K over MSRP! Another dealer "claims" to have sold one for $52K.
jesus....sounds like the E46 M3. My brother ordered one almost a year and a half ago...and didn't get it till 3 months ago. I've heard of $15k markups for the M3, which puts the final price somewhere around 60 grand Eh, considering what our public will pay for, it shouldn't be any suprise.
Let's hoped that Mazda's dealers show a little more restrain on the mark-up when the RX-8 debut. But dealers are dealers so I doubt that they will hold back.

If you haven't noticed, this one was for charity, and it was only one (unlike the handful of stooks that found their way onto e-bay). I wouldn't consider this an abuse or a normal occurence.
Originally posted by B-Nez Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't really care for sending $95.1K to a seller with 0 feedback!
All bidders had to be verified before they were allowed to bid. Bank account numbers were required, and who knows what else. Personally, I wouldn't give my bank number to anyone (except wife and work). I wonder how many bids they lost due to the verification.
