I blew my rx8 engine a couple months ago so i tried three times to rebuild it myself but couldn't get the car to hold compression the first two times and last time i rebuilt it i didn't even bother starting it i just parted it out.
After searching around for a rebuild job and speaking to all these big well known engine building companies the prices they was asking to do the job i needed done was ridiculous. So i sourced elsewhere and found these guys based out in Texas.

First off i cant recall once that i called and didn't get them right away. They wouldn't ignore my calls or refused to help me out even before i told them ima have them build my engine. The main guy Omar was up with me till 3 in the morning twice just answering any questions or concerns i had about my build and again that was before i sent them any money.
After a couple days i realized these guys know what they are doing and enjoy it and not just a shop building engines just to make money. Engine was built in a two days because of the delay in my aviation seals he recommended because i have a heavy right foot loll.
Pics was sent throughout the build and a mild street porting was done along with polished ports. Fast freight shipping and always there when u needed help.

After picking this baby up two days ago installed it. Car woudnt let me start it because i mixed up the computer from another rx8. he was on the phone the whole time directing me through the entire trouble shooting till 11pm. in the end we got it started THIS GUY KNOWS HIS STUFF. Car sounds great .
Over all great guys and will recommend them to anyone wanting a rebuild.


My build with small street port and aviation seals was 2900 and thats without a core. U dotn need one if u do then u wont have to pay the full amount he will take your old engine and give u credit.
All there build come with a 1yr 12k miles warranty

Ive known the guy for years, He's done great builds and really know his stuff! Ive seen a couple of rx7's built by him and their awesome!

Yeah i got mine ported and polished and this thing does pull harder, Dropped it in last Thursday morning and at 9pm i took a 700 miles road trip, engine didint miss a beat once. Great guys they will be doing my v8 swap next.

Saw OJimports builds on eBay and I can't figure out the math on how he's selling full motors for $2500 with no core... When Mazda remans are roughly $3400 with a core return.

he is probably getting cores cheap else where. the pictures of the housings and rotors aren't in the best shape either... doesn't mean they don't work but I saw a questionable rotor and questionable housing in the pictures in the 2nd post

Even if you luck upon a $500 core every couple of months (which is hard to do, I've been trying to do it for a few years now) you still have to put another $1000 in seals into the build, and add to that the fact that your $500 core is very likely to need one or both rotor housings replaced. Used rotor housings in usable condition are quite hard to find as well, and will run you at least a couple hundred each, nice ones might run $500-800 per set. So I really don't see how he is making more than a couple hundred bucks on each build. Or he is just getting incredibly lucky in finding parts, which won't last forever and the price will have to go up. About $2800 is the bare minimum that I can justify selling an engine for outright, but usually closer to 3000-3200 is where I need to be to make even 4-500 bucks (which is not that much money to make for 20-30 hours of skilled labor plus a large tool/supply investment and at least $1500 in up front parts investment).

Kinda what I'm figuring. There's no way he has an unlimited supply of useable core to keep the price so low unless he's throwing all kinds of mixed used parts together to make a profit.

I have heard of them for quite a few years now and have never heard anything bad. They seem legit. After a few thousand miles you should go to the dealer and get it compression tested, see how high the numbers are.

I just really wanna know where you get enough parts to do that and still make any money beyond 200 bucks. I can sell pre-built blocks as fast as I can build them, but the problem is I can *not* find enough parts to keep building them and selling them outright with no core required.

This thread is getting old but I can still vouch for OJImports. They're very good and decent people, especially Omar. I sent them my failing rotary engine, they opened it up and called me immediately with the news that it had a spun bearing which made many other parts unusable, however they still accepted it as a core. They had a rebuild ready to go to someone else but because I got to them before the other person, they let me have it which was very nice. Any problems I had, Omar handled them in the nicest way possible and like said before, he's very knowledgeable in the rotary world. This thread didn't come up when I was researching OJImports to see if they were good but I'm glad I went with them and I hope others are able to see all of our uplifting testaments.

Yea I've personally used them for my RX-8. I towed the car out to them and I met Omar. He really is a great guy and after talking with him for a while, they definitely know their stuff.

Edit: BTW they have a Youtube channel. Just search ojimports. They did an LS1 engine swap. It sounds amazing IMO.

I have been dealing with Omar at OJ imports for about 15 years now and have had about eight Rotary cars built with him, and all have performed awesome! I just read something in the bad guy section that I believe it is very one sided as I know Omar personally and is a man of his word. I believe this guy was trying to get a fresh motor out of Omar and as OJ is an expert in this with over 20 years experience... he smelled BS from a mile away and went about it the correct way. A couple of my motors went bad either because I had abused it or a part failed and Omar never gave me any kind of hassle, he warrantied them in a heartbeat! If this guy wasn't satisfied after only paying a little over $2000 to rebuild the motor including shipping it over and back expecting dealer compression test numbers... he should have paid dealership price for a new engine! (Over 6k!) you get what you pay for and Omar can easily build an engine on a budget or new with all new parts! Hats off to the guy for building numerous engines on a budget and never having a single complaint up until now! You can't please everyone but he has done a very good job in that department so far! Keep up the good work OJ IMPORTS!

It could still be legit. I don't understand why any builder wanting to have a good rep would offer a semi-rebuild that is known not to produce acceptable results? There seemed to be some question about whether the expected result is explained properly in advance too. Not knocking anyone since I wasn't there, but as general feedback if the customer is not prepared with the proper expectation then that can result in a controversial outcome.

The problem with that is that, for the vast majority of customers, educating them about the complexities of rebuilding the rotary engine is not really possible. All you'll do is end up in a useless loop of "so how much?" questions, or they will just move on to someone who will give them the lowest price and you'll lose the work. Customers are lazy and inattentive for the most part...up until they want to accuse you of wrongdoing, then they are like sherlock holmes. But up front you can tell them a story or a specification 3 times and the next month they will act as though they never heard you.
