Why I will never run nitrous in my car...

These are from the Subie vs. Mitsubishi shootout at Norwalk. Looks of big pics to 56k beware.

There goes a $5,000 car with $20,000 worth of mods on it. That sucks. The guy looks like he wants to cry. I think I would be too...

You're right, Nitrous is not flamable. It is the extreme heat during combustion that causes the Nitrogen to separate from the Oxygen and then you have more Oxygen in the combustion chamber. It also has no smell, but there is Sulfur Dioxide added that will make you cough if it is released from the bottle in the car.

It looks as if he was running a fuel cel. The fire was concentrated in the rear of the car. He may have had a fuel leak. The deep orange flames look like fuel and oil.

That's what I tend to think...it's a fuel problem...something with a breaking line, perhaps ignited by a hot exhaust?

The thing that sucks is it's not his car, the girl in some of the pics is the owner. Pretty sad to see another nice DSM go bye bye

From the video it looks like the fire was started after a backfire, but more towards the front of the car. The Evo guys claim it was a nitrous backfire that started the fire, whatever that means... Turns out the car was some shop car which makes me feel less bad, though judging by how upset the driver and girl were it was a car they cared about quite a bit

The C5 was blamed on N2O backfire too - however, every backfire I've seen just sorta goes 'pop!' no messy flames. Course, if a fuel line ruptured...anything could happen.

None of these goobers at these tracks seem to have any experience with a fire they couldn't **** out. The guy with the camera at the vette fire is a douchebag.

I think if i was running nitrous, i'd have some sort of full car fire suppression system installed. Not worth losing your life or car to save a few pounds.

When you're removing plastic pieces to save 10lbs to run a faster time at the strip it's silly to add weight with something like that (even if such a thing exists). No one got hurt, and they lost the car, it's a chance you take when you're trying to be fast.
